Media and Digital Skills for Beginners

Sessions will run daily from 9 am - 12 pm.  Enrolled students are expected to spend between two to three hours daily working on their projects independently.  

Media, in all its forms, is one of the most powerful tools influencing public thought. Tackling some of the basic concepts of media ethics, this introductory bootcamp in media and digital skills will take a look at the media in the modern world. Through this bootcamp, you will become more informed, which will improve your judgment and prepare you for some of the ethical issues you may confront in your media career. Guided by experts in the field, you will learn to protect yourself from fake news, radicalization, and cyberbullying. Using accessible digital devices, you will learn to craft professional and compelling media content to deliver meaningful messages.

High school and freshman university students

No prior knowledge is needed

  • Understand how media messages are constructed products
  • Critically use and consume media messages
  • Demonstrate an understanding of digital tools and mainstream media.
  • Create media messages using accessible digital tools
  • Laptop, tablet or phone
  • Reliable internet connection (ADSL)
  • Note-taking tools: pencils/pens/paper
