CLT Certificate Tracks

As part of his academic strategic priorities (August 2015, "Enhancing Teaching Effectiveness"), the provost directed the Center for Learning and Teaching (CLT) to develop a Teaching Enhancement Program that would address the needs of all AUC faculty members, and that would lead to a certificate of participation, which would count towards promotion, tenure, renewal of contract and the AFR.


The Following Certificate Tracks are Available:

Assessment for Learning

Explore alternative forms of assessment designed to empower your students and tap into their creativity and critical thinking skills. Workshops in this track will cover topics such as classroom assessment techniques, creative assessment, and critical reflection.

Active Learning

Make the transition from simply lecturing to adopting active learning strategies, from simple activities to more complex approaches.

Active Learning I will consist of topics such as peer instruction, discussion pedagogy and  collaborative learning.

Active Learning II will include topics like more on Active Learning Tool Parade.

Web-Enhanced Teaching and Learning

Discover various approaches to integrate technology into your teaching in a pedagogically effective way that also engages students and enhances learning. Workshops in this track will explore topics such as “flipping the classroom” and integrating various forms of Web 2.0 technologies and social media.

Course Design

Explore simple design approaches including hands-on examples of how to use course design for effective and engaging student learning. Workshops in this track will include topics such as backward design, learning outcomes and story boarding.

Community-Based Learning

Learn about the pedagogic and academic benefits of community-based learning (CBL) for enhancing the civic engagement of AUC students. Workshops in this track will include topics such as CBL course design, the role of reflection in CBL, and effective multi-modal assessment of CBL courses.
