Reporting a Violation
All members of the AUC community are asked to use the Academic Integrity Committee (AIC) online reporting form when submitting an academic integrity violation. The form, found here, will automatically notify the Office of Academic Integrity when a case has been submitted. Digital evidence can be submitted through the online report form.
Faculty are asked to inform both the department chair and the student when a report is filed as well as provide copies of the submitted evidence to the student.

Disciplinary Procedures
Violations of the AUC Code of Academic Ethics will result in cases being filed with the AIC. The AIC meets regularly throughout the semester to hear reported violations. Students will be notified via email when reported. At the discretion of the AIC, first violation cheating or plagiarism cases may be offered the opportunity to plead guilty. This option will only be provided to students who are accused of committing single violations. Students will be informed of this option either at the time of notification of a case or through separate communication via email. If it is felt that a meeting with the student is necessary or if a student is accused of a violation outside of the possible plea categories, he/she will be notified of their appointment time and place. Emails are sent to the email address on the student's record. Students are responsible for updating their records on Banner. Students who fail to attend their scheduled appointment with AIC will have their cases decided on in their absence based on the available information. The student will be informed via email once the AIC makes its decision. It is important to note that the decision will be shared on a need to know basis.

Possible Corrective measures
There is a wide range of sanctions for each class of violations from which the Academic Integrity Committee can choose on a case-by-case basis. Possible sanctions include but are not limited to:

  • Expulsion

  • Loss of scholarships, financial aid

  • Suspension of one to two years

  • Academic integrity class required

  • Referral to authorities outside AUC for prosecution

  • Restitution, including legal fees

  • Social probation

  • Reduction of credit hours allowed during next semester

  • Community Service hours up to 120 hours

  • And other possible corrective measures

Appeals

Once a case is decided, the decision is typically final. Appeals will only be considered based on new evidence. If a student is appealing on such grounds, the student must submit a written petition that includes:

  1. A summary of the case

  2. The outcome

  3. The reason for the appeal

  4. The new evidence on which the appeal is based

  5. A brief discussion of what you hope the appeal will achieve

Petitions should be signed and dated and submitted in hard copy to the Academic Integrity Office. Students who plead guilty instead of a meeting are not eligible for appeal.

Important note for students: Should you ever be asked by employers or other institutions (for your study abroad or graduate school applications), whether you had disciplinary or academic violations, you are required to answer truthfully. Failure to do so is considered a fabrication of application and could result in dismissal if the truth is ever discovered.
