Repair and Maintenance Technician, Academic and Campus Technical Support Services (50019063)

Reports to: Senior A/V Engineer

Purpose: This position is a technical position that requires the skills and abilities needed to repair, install and maintain the equipment of Academic and Campus Technical Support Services (ACTSS) audio-visual resources to support events and classrooms. The job holder will deal directly and assist the Senior A/V Engineer either in instructional or event spaces in using ACTSS resources either circulated or installed in AUC spaces. Also, assist in the regular ACTSS functions and services.

Principal Accountabilities: 

  • First level responsibility for the technical setup and repair of equipment and logistics for assigned campus-wide ACTSS services
  • Provide technical assistance to A/V Senior Engineer for fixing ACTSS equipment and technologies
  • Maintain audiovisual equipment including but not limited to display devices, projectors, computers, camera systems, video teleconferencing systems (VTC), microphones and speakers
  • Collect, transport, return to storage and account for the resources used during work assignments
  • Maintain accurate and timely records regarding work assignments
  • Report equipment or technical failures to the proper person or service unit and follow-up until resolved
  • Willingness to learn and adopt new technologies and techniques
  • Perform other tasks as directed by supervisors and managers

Requirements:

Minimum Education Requirements:

  • Preferably successful completion of at least a technical degree or equivalent experience
  • University degree is an asset

Experience:

  • Experience with projectors, computers and instructional settings
  • Work in related technical services is desired
  • Minimum of two years of fulltime support of repair and maintain audio-visual and sound systems

Skills:

  • Ability to quickly troubleshoot and solve system malfunctions
  • Ability to evaluate a problem and pursue solutions
  • Ability to work as part of the team
  • Ability to learn and adopt new technologies and techniques
  • Repair and Maintain proficiency in various audio-visual equipment, accessories, and services
  • Ability to communicate with clients and understand basic English
  • Ability to understand assignment schedules written and communicated in English language
  • Basic field repair techniques using basic tools
  • Ability to work well with other AUC service departments
  • Work under pressure, for long time periods, and on shifts
  • Work assignments might require physical effort to be accomplished

Working Condition:

  • Ready to work under stress, on weekends and on vacations
  • Able to repeatedly lift heavy objects (20 kg)
