General Questions

What are the scholarships offered by AUC for Egyptian students?

AUC offers scholarships based on merit and need. Generally, scholarships are reserved for students with strong academic qualifications who demonstrate financial need. There are partial and full scholarships. To learn more about available scholarships, click here to visit our scholarships website.

If I want to apply for more than one scholarship, do I have to fill each time an application?

No, you can fill only one application. But make sure to select the different scholarships that you want to apply to.

Can an undergraduate student receive more than one scholarship?

The undergraduate student may combine a financial aid award and partial scholarship award(s). In case of getting a full scholarship, no other awards will be granted.

Should I wait until I receive a decision from the AUC admissions before applying for any scholarship?

No, for new/prospective students, you can apply to any scholarship once you receive an AUC ID number. Do not wait until you receive the university final acceptance as you have to abide by the scholarship application deadlines stated on the website.

I have outstanding high school scores; can I receive a scholarship based on my academic qualifications and high scores only?

AUC is definitely interested in recruiting students with outstanding academic achievements. Each scholarship has its own criteria. The current available scholarships offer unique opportunities to financially deserving students with excellent academic achievement.

How can I maintain my scholarship?

You must maintain a full-time status, and your earned institutional hours must not be less than 12 credit hours per semester. In addition, refer to your scholarship award letter terms.

What happens if I reduce my academic load to part time?

If you reduce your academic load to be less than 12 credit hours per semester, you will no longer be eligible and therefore you will lose your scholarship. Generally, you must refer to your award letter to confirm the minimum requested credit hours to maintain the scholarship.

Can I maintain my scholarship if I registered in 12 credit hours and then dropped three credits and repeated it later?

No. You will lose your scholarship award because you have to maintain a full-time status till the end of the semester; i.e. your earned hours must not be less than 12 credits per semester.

What if I lose my eligibility for the scholarship, is there any way to regain it?

This depends on many factors. The scholarship team will assess the case according to your donor’s criteria and will work with you to the extent possible to find alternative funding opportunities if your chance to regain your scholarship is not possible.

I am an American high school student exploring opportunities to study at AUC but I need to first know more about the funding opportunities available to students from the United States

Named Scholarships

What are named scholarships?

Named scholarships are scholarship awards funded by individual donors or corporations. Selection is based on the donor's criteria as well as the scholarship coverage.

Do named scholarships offer partial or full funding opportunities?

Named scholarships may offer partial or full funding depending on the donor.

Do I need to apply for named scholarships?

Yes, you need to apply for named scholarships. For more information on how to apply, click here.

When should I apply for a named scholarship?

Check the scholarships website for deadlines.

When do I know the decision of the named scholarship application?

The scholarships committee meets one week before the beginning of each semester to decide on the new awardees of named scholarships. If you are one of the awardees, a staff member from the Office of Student Financial Affairs and Scholarships will contact you to complete the admission and scholarship procedures.

Is there a chance that new applicants get a scholarship reply earlier than August?

We have to wait for thanawaya amma results announcement and to give opportunities to all students including those from some high schools with high school certificate results announced in late July (for example IGSCE).

I am currently studying at AUC, are named scholarships only offered to new students? Are there any scholarship opportunities offered to current students?

Many scholarships can apply to both new and continuing students. It depends on the announced scholarship criteria in the following link

Do I need to apply for named scholarships every semester?

You should refer to your scholarship award letter concerning the renewal procedures.

 

Public School Scholarships

When do I apply for the Public School Scholarship?

You must apply for the Public School Scholarship before the scholarships application deadline. For more information regarding the application of the Public School Scholarship, click here.

What are the requirements of the Public School Scholarship?

  • Applicants should complete AUC application procedures and meet admissions requirements.
  • They should be Egyptian students graduating from public schools, experimental, STEM and Nile schools. Language schools are excluded
  • They should have an outstanding secondary school academic record. Minimum acceptance score is 97 percent for the science section and 94 percent for the arts section and 92 percent for STEM certificate and EICE certificate.
  • They should demonstrate financial need for the scholarship.
  • Students must pass either the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) with a minimum overall or total band score of 5.5 and writing score of 5.5 or the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) with a minimum total score of 62 and writing score of 17.

If I was awarded thanawiya amma last year, can I still apply for the Public School Scholarship the coming year?

No, the Public School Scholarship applies only to students who completed thanawiya amma during the academic year of their high school graduation (i.e. applying Fall 2019 at AUC for a received Thanawiya Amma in 2018-2019).

Do I have to get my scores for the IELTS or TOEFL before the deadline of the scholarship’s application?

No, but you need to register for these exams. You should take the test and submit your scores for the IELTS or TOEFL before the announcement of the Thanaweya Amma results.

How long are the IELTS and TOEFL tests valid for?

These English tests are valid for two years provided that the date should never exceed the first day of classes.

As a Public School Scholarship student, can I apply to any of the exchange programs offered by AUC and if so will the scholarship cover the tuition, hostel and accommodation fees?

As a public school scholarship student, if you wish to join the exchange program offered by AUC with other foreign universities, AUC will pay only the tuition fees for 15 credits; you will have to bear all other costs. You can check the vacant scholarships link for possible scholarships opportunities for the exchange program ahead of each semester.

If I am selected as a Public School Scholarship recipient, can I have double major or double minor?

If you are a public school scholarship student, please note that the scholarship will cover one major only. The minor credits will be covered only in case they are included in, as well as not exceeding the number of credits required for graduation for your major. Double major or double minor is not covered by the scholarship.

Does the Public School Scholarship cover summer and winter sessions?

If you wish to register for summer and winter sessions, you must get permission from the Office of Student Financial Affairs and Scholarships at least one month prior to the beginning of the semester. The scholarship team reviews the requests; the final decision is subject to the scholarship administration consideration.

If I am selected for the Public School Scholarship, but I live in another governorate and need accommodation to study at AUC, can the scholarship cover accommodation fees for me?

Yes, the scholarship covers dorms for students outside of Cairo and Giza. 

 

The Cultural Scholarship

What is Cultural Scholarship?

This is an annual partial scholarship awarded every Fall semester. Students awarded this scholarship receive up to 50% reduction in their tuition. 

How do I know if I am eligible for the scholarship or not?

You must complete an online application and submit the required documentation. You may be interviewed by the Office of Student Life, and your activities will be evaluated by a committee to determine your eligibility.

How much do I receive from the scholarship?

Students awarded this scholarship receive up to 50 percent reduction in their tuition for one academic year (Fall and Spring).

How can I maintain my scholarship?

Your scholarship will be maintained provided you:

  • Maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.0 for those admitted before Fall 2017
  • Maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.5 for those admitted starting Fall 2017
  • Must renew the financial aid application every academic year for those admitted starting Fall 2017
  • Continue to register as a full-time student (12 credit hours)
  • Continue to be actively engaged in different programs (cultural and leadership activities) organized by the Office of Student Life
  • Meet all other award terms stated in your award letter

Is the Cultural Scholarship applied in the summer semester?

Yes, the cultural scholarship is applied in the summer semester. It will be calculated proportionally according to the number of credit hours registered by the student during the summer session.

Is it applied in the winter semester?

No, there is no cultural scholarship in winter semester.

Athletic Scholarship

What is an Athletic scholarship?

This is an annual partial or full scholarship provided to a select number of students who participate in University-sponsored sports. 

How can I apply for the Athletic Scholarship?

What are the documents needed for the athletic scholarship?

For Egyptian and Non-Egyptian students: Students must submit their "athletic resume" to the Office of Athletics. 

What are the University-sponsored/types of sports and positions required to receive the athletic scholarship?

How much do I receive from the scholarship?

This is a partial or full scholarship depending on your assessment.

How can I maintain my scholarship?

Your scholarship will be maintained provided that you:

  • Maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.0 for those admitted before Fall 2017
  • Maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.5 for those admitted starting Fall 2017
  • Must renew the financial aid application every academic year for those admitted starting Fall 2017
  • Maintain full-time status (be registered for a minimum of 12 credit hours per semester)
  • Actively participate in AUC athletic activities
  • Continue to participate in the National Universities Tournament
  • Meet all other award terms stated in your award letter

Is the athletic scholarship applied in the summer semester?

Yes, the athletic scholarship is awarded in the summer semester. It will be calculated proportionally according to the number of credit hours taken by the student during the summer session.

Is the athletic scholarship applied in the winter semester?

No.

Most of the scholarships are targeting students from public schools and/or governorates outside Egypt. My daughter will be graduating with an Abitur Certificate, is there a chance for her to receive any scholarship?
