Officer, Internship, Career Center (10019)

Reports to: Manager, Experiential Learning

Purpose: The job holder will manage and coordinate the internship program to help students gain hands-on experience and develop the skills they need for success in their future careers. Support and guide students throughout their internship search process, helping them identify their areas of strength and development needed to land internships for their respective majors or career aspirations. Develop and maintain a strong corporate network to generate internship opportunities and enhance employer relations.

Principal Accountabilities:

Program Design and Planning

  • Develop a strategy for the internship program in coordination with the assistant director-experiential learning and the executive director and ensure its implementation
  • Program owner: exercise leadership in the development and implementation of an effective internship program that enhances students’ academic experience and helps them develop job-related skills
  • Participate in surveying, planning and initiating new corporate partnerships that address student development needs, such as targeted International student programs
  • Enhance employer relations and conduct corporate visits to develop new internship opportunities
  • Update and revise internship program policies and procedures

Programs and Service Implementation

  • Coordinate with academic departments and students’ associations to identify student internship needs and promote relevant internships for specific majors
  • Research, identify and announce internship opportunities relevant to students’ majors
  • Handle student and employer inquiries and correspondence with a variety of constituents related to the internship program
  • Develop and facilitate internship orientation for students in groups and on a one-to-one basis
  • Partner with companies throughout the internship process from announcement to selection and evaluation
  • Conduct corporate visits to promote the internship program and experiential learning, and provide guidance to companies interested in developing a corporate internship program
  • Coordinate on-campus corporate career-related events and activities and schedule on-campus interview appointments for potential interns with employers as needed
  • Develop in conjunction with the career communication manager the marketing and promotional plan for the internship program
  • Assist in the announcement, selection, interviewing, follow up and issuance of certificates in the Egyptian Ministries Internship Program

Student Experiential Learning Development

  • Meet individually with students, assess their needs, and ensure their adequate preparation for the internship experience
  • Critique and approve student resumes and provide quick tips for enhancements
  • Guide and coach students through their search for internship opportunities
  • Establish a working relationship with student clubs and organizations and understand their internship needs
  • Co-run an annual orientation for student leaders to ensure that the process of corporate career interactions is aligned through a clear process

Follow-up, Feedback and Evaluation

  • Handle internship program follow up, updating internship data and selected students list
  • Collaborate with the office of student engagement to get student internship experiences noted on their co-curricular transcripts
  • Conduct and analyze student and employer program evaluations and program assessment, articulating program goals, objectives and outcomes and developing a semi-annual internship report
  • Develop support documentation to issue co-signed internship certificates upon request
  • Provide concrete feedback on the number of students who landed internship opportunities

General

  • Participate in staff meetings, annual performance evaluation and professional development activities
  • Flexibility in providing evening and weekend hours
  • Carry out additional responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor

Requirements:

Minimum Education Requirement: Bachelor's degree required; preferably in a related field. Graduate degree in education, human resources or a related field is an asset

Experience:

  • Minimum of seven to nine years of experience, preferably including three years in educational institutes, youth coaching/advising, human resources or student organizations
  • Experience in computer data management and in the preparation of the accurate analysis of data and reports.
  • Experience in building corporate partnerships is an asset

Skills:

  • Ability to work independently, take initiative and assume responsibility for the organization and administration of multiple projects
  • Strong interpersonal skills, especially in areas of collaboration and problem-solving
  • Good knowledge of student and career development is preferred
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and constituents

  • Excellent organizational, planning and presentation skills
  • Self -motivated, creative and energetic
  • Excellent knowledge of Macintosh operations is a must. Working experience of Microsoft Office
  • Extensive working knowledge of the Internet for research purposes
  • Excellent command of spoken and written English and Arabic
