The prize is intended to reflect Dr. Zewail's belief that Egypt's future development rests on three pillars:


  1. Progress in the physical, biological and social sciences
  2. The development of world-class technologies
  3. A deeper understanding of the relationships among science, technology, and society

The prize is intended to highlight the significance of these developments and will be awarded at each commencement.

Terms of the Award

The winner of the Zewail Prize will receive a Commendation for Excellence co-signed by Dr. Zewail and the President of The American University in Cairo and a cash award of LE 2,000. The essays of prize winners will be published in a position of honor and prominence on the AUC Web site.
