Cracking the Creative Mind

Does creativity come by nature or by nurture?

In such a competitive and fast-paced world, coming up with outbreaking ideas is necessary to stand out from the crowds and maintain your competence. This explains why creativity is currently one of the most in-demand qualities that employers are looking for when hiring new job candidates. The nature of creativity, nevertheless, is often ambiguous and thinking creatively is commonly believed to be restricted to a lucky minority of innately creative people.

This bootcamp embarks on Edward de Bono’s Lateral Thinking theories to help participants adopt a creative mindset and master creative thinking skills. Lateral thinking seeks irrelevant inspirations, breaks out mind fixedness and encourages coming up with as many options as possible. To achieve this, the theory suggests multiple deliberate thinking techniques to restructure information and bring about unforeseen ideas. Lateral thinking helps you enrich your personal life and have an advantage in whatever field you enter.

Participants will understand, through games and exercises, how their minds work. This will help them develop self-awareness of their mind mechanism. Then, participants will train on fundamentals of creative thinking such as deferring judgment, changing perspectives and generating as many alternatives as possible. Finally, participants will practice techniques to break their repetitive thinking patterns. Techniques include analogies, reverse method, SCAMPER and PAGES. Applications cover a variety of topics, including entrepreneurship, product design, landscape and fashion. Participants will often work on 3D models to materialize their ideas and turn them into usable artifacts.
