Arabic Calligraphy and Lettering
Indulge in the beauty of Arabic script and learn about maintaining its essence in the modern world.
This two-week boot camp will help you build a foundation in the fundamentals of Arabic calligraphy and lettering. Learn the basics of Naskh calligraphy and Diwani script form manipulation. Experiment with a variety of writing tools and work on lettering to create a typographic poster of your favorite Arabic quote. You will also produce a quote using Latin display typeface and then craft its counterpart in Arabic typography. The boot camp will enhance your knowledge of Arabic script and its beauty, fluidity and versatility.

- Two-weeks: July 17 - 28, 2022
- Sessions will run daily from 9 am to 3 pm
- AUC New Cairo campus

- EGP 3,600 (price including materials needed)

Who Can Apply?
Students aged 18+ years, preferably with a background in design.
Certification
All the boot camp participants will receive a certificate of participation from AUC.
Transportation
The AUC bus service is available for extra fees. Details on the schedule will be shared before the program's start date.
Note that only vaccinated students are allowed to use the bus service.
Accommodation
Accommodation is offered at the University residences.
About the Instructors
Najla Badran
A typeface designer, typographer and graphic designer teaching at AUC. She holds a BA in graphic design from the German University in Cairo in 2012. and an MA in typeface design from the University of Reading, UK in 2014. She is currently pursuing her PhD at the University of Reading, UK. Badran's research interests are on the Arabic script and typography focusing on history and development and maintaining the beauty, fluidity and historical essence of the Arabic script in modern-day design.
Mohamed Hassan
An award-winning master of Arabic calligraphy, who holds a diploma in Arabic Calligraphy from the Arabic Calligraphic Institute in Giza and a diploma in specialization and excellence. He received his calligraphic license (Al Ijazah) from the Sheikh of Egyptian Calligraphers in 2015. Hassan has taught at the Arabic Calligraphic Institute in Giza and has participated in various calligraphic exhibitions in the Middle East and North Africa and Turkey. In 2014, he founded Dar Medad for teaching Arabic calligraphy and design.

A 100% refund of the program fees will be offered in the following cases. Cases should be reported at least three weeks before the program's start date.
