The Online Arabic covers the language proficiency levels from A1 to mid-B1. It consists of three instructor-led online courses, each of which requires 72 contact hours and is presented in 12 online learning units over 12 weeks. Each learning unit consists of a graded sequence of presentations and interactive practice activities using a variety of multimedia resources and quizzes to ensure clear explanations and plenty of practice opportunities with immediate feedback.
At the end of each course, there will be a final assessment project, and upon successful completion, you will get a course completion certificate and will be eligible for the level that follows.
The Arabic Language and Culture Program (ALCP) will expand these courses to offer higher levels of language proficiency and more speaking activities.
Online Arabic One (Level A1 in Common European Framework (CEFR)
In this course, you will learn the Arabic writing system through graded and contextualized activities that take you gradually from recognizing and writing letters to reading and writing words and simple phrases. The activities also include systematic revision and consolidation of the learned items.
Along with the literacy skills, you will learn functional phrases and expressions through recorded dialogues and interactive activities. These include greetings, self-introductions, exchanging personal information and short questions and answers in a variety of everyday situations.
Online Arabic Two (Level A1-A2 in Common European Framework (CEFR)
Building on the previously learned literacy skills, this course aims at developing your written proficiency in Arabic through a graded sequence of vocabulary building and reading comprehension activities at intermediate proficiency level (A2 in the Common European Framework). By the end of this level, you will be able to understand the overall meaning and extract specific information from Arabic texts dealing with a variety of topics such as jobs and professions, describing places, hobbies and food. The reading materials and activities will also help you develop cultural awareness of the Egyptian culture in areas such as food, music and city life.
The learning resources are designed to facilitate learning vocabulary in context through interactive online exercises. Also, functional grammatical structures are presented and practiced in context.
Online Arabic Three (Level A2-B1 in Common European Framework (CEFR)
This course will help you further develop your written proficiency and expand your vocabulary through a graded and structured sequence of reading comprehension practice activities. The reading materials comprise longer texts of more complex language and deal with a wider range of topics. The reading activities will help you develop more advanced reading strategies and gain more control over vocabulary and grammatical structures through structured reading skills and activities based on a variety of text types and through completing built-in functional writing assignments. Also, the discussion activities based on the reading materials will help you explore and gain awareness of the culture of Egypt and the Arab world.
