Manager, AUC TV Studio, Kamal Adham Center for Television and Digital Journalism (Grant Position) 

Reports to: Assistant Director for Operations and Engineering Services, Kamal Adham Center

Purpose: The job holder of this position is responsible for overseeing the day to day studio productions. Working with a team of fellows, he/she works to create creative content for AUCTV as well as train students on the operation and foster teamwork among students and fellows. He/she is responsible for the timely delivery of material produced in-house to AUCTV media management for final delivery to AUCTV programming channels. The job holder works closely with production to ensure proper allocation of resources and timely delivery of creative material to programming.

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Oversee the floor and the technical operations of a television studio and control room
  • Implement studio procedures for the use of both TV studios and provide on-air support
  • Act as part of the creative team that creates videos and shows for all of graduate and undergraduate courses
  • Streamline processes to increase reliability
  • Increase telent pipeline
  • Establish overall timing plans throughout the briefing, creative development and production processes
  • Suggest, develop, execute and maintain disaster and backup recovery plans
  • Oversee the day-to-day operational efficiency of the in-house production studio
  • Set priorities to meet deadlines and produce results
  • Train and develop students and fellows on studio use
  • Foster a spirit of collaboration and teamwork among students and fellows
  • Update studio schedules and develop road maps for studio work weekly/monthly/quarterly
  • Assist in Implementing emerging new technologies into the studio and work with and train the editorial staff/students to effectively get on the air
  • Oversee proper use and care of prosumer cameras and related equipment
  • Facilitates internal creative reviews and approvals in coordination with production
  • Identify and gather all required assets for all assignments; ensures all assets meet specs associated with the in-house project
  • Research and advise on studio production options as necessary
  • Assist with the planning and coordination for creative work in coordination with production
  • Collaborate with production for the time scheduling and resource allocation of all projects and managing their timelines and delivery
  • Direct in-house resources to ensure the highest level of creative quality according to the set timeline
  • Responsible for all metrics including but not limited to: capacity reports, prioritization reports, deliverable reports and any other reporting as needed
  • Ensure final delivery of creative assets
  • Streamline and maintain QC (Quality Control) processes
  • Aid in the implementation of producers and workflow set for production management
  • Document detailed department procedures that clearly represent the overall team workflows
  • Manage assets and archives projects accordingly
  • Direct and manage the development of the Audio Video creative for a wide variety of shows
  • Develop concepts, direct graphics and supervise edits on a range of assignments
  • Collaborate with the entire AUC TV team to ensure all assets are developed and executed to meet the given strategy and deadlines
  • Provide constructive feedback on any project within the team that may need creative development support
  • Manage recording logistics including schedules and deadlines from beginning of creation to finishing and delivery
  • Assist in developing knowledge of and relationships with new resources, talent and technology

Requirements:

Minimum Education Requirement(s): MA in Television and Digital journalism is required.

Experience: Minimum of ten years of experience, including eight years of demonstrated professional video experience or a portfolio of work that demonstrates proficiency with all stages of video production required.

  • Working knowledge of studio operation best practices
  • Working knowledge of video and photo applications
  • Experience with designing studio spaces, building from the ground up
  • Television and/or video pre-production, production, and post-production methods, practices and procedures
  • Have hand/eye coordination and manual dexterity sufficient to effectively operate associated television and video equipment
  • Multi and single-camera production and editing workflow
  • Awareness of Copyright regulations and privacy laws
  • Hand on experience of live editing and show editing techniques
  • Proficiency with processes and software used in video editing and motion graphics production (Adobe Creative Cloud and Final Cut 7 preferred)
  • Ability to juggle a heavy workload and keep multiple projects on track. Possesses excellent anticipatory skills
  • Exhibits willingness to take on responsibilities outside of his/her job description and has the ability to respond to business demands in a fast-paced environment. Presents a positive and professional attitude to faculty and co-workers
  • Great communicator and is punctual. He/she maintains an efficient workflow and process and promptly communicates any issues to higher management
