Senior Specialist, Financial Aid, Student Financial Affairs and Scholarships Office (50030026)

Reports to: Manager, Financial Aid

Purpose: To assist in the implementation of the financial aid program and major office operations. Ensures financial aid evaluations and services are managed effectively, efficiently, with a strong service orientation, and in compliance with institutional regulations. Educates and counsels students and parents on all aspects of Financial Aid programs; performs needs analysis, verification reviews, and database match resolutions.

 

Principal Accountabilities:

Financial Aid:

  • Reviews the student's financial aid applications, performs institutional need analysis and evaluates students’ financial aid status

  • Provides technical, administrative and other general information to students, parents and other clients regarding financial aid programs

  • Communicates with students/ parents to request additional information and/or documents for incomplete information

  • Interviews parents/ students to determine need assessment and financial aid eligibility, and verify potential discrepancy of the submitted financial aid applications

  • Responds to inquiries and provides customer service support.

  • Prepares financial aid letters and sends the relevant excel sheets to the office of student services online to be processed online.

Other Related Duties:

  • Assists in the build-up, update, and testing of the online financial aid application, in coordination with the IT department and the financial aid team.

  • Tracks the formulas to ensure accuracy on-going.

  • Assists in preparing portal announcements to update the students with the financial aid deadlines as well as outlining any changes in the financial aid policies and procedures on the AUC website as needed.

  • Maintains Student files to ensure proper financial aid documentation

  • Handles the requests from the non-Egyptian students to pay the Egyptian tuition rate

  • Communicates requests and documents to the concerned offices as needed

  • Retrieves for external auditors the required files

  • Represents the Office of Student Financial Affairs and Scholarships during orientation events

  • Maintains and updates a special filing system for all financial aid applications and requests. Adds documents and information to the students’ files

  • Performs any other related duties as assigned

Requirements:

Minimum Education Requirement: Bachelor University degree, preferably in business administration or economics.

Experience: A minimum of five years of experience, preferably in a related field or relevant academic administrative or financial area.

Skills:

  • Excellent analytical abilities, written and oral communication skills, and counseling skills

  • Proven attention to detail, accuracy, and ability to manage a high volume of work under strict deadlines

  •  Demonstration of sound independent judgment in considering individual circumstances while complying with established guidelines

  •  Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Access, Excel, and web-based technology required. Previous knowledge of Banner Student Aid (BSA) is an asset

  • Ability to interact effectively as a member of a team and work collaboratively with other departments

  • Ability to listen to customers (like; students, staff, and others) and to understand and respond positively to their requests

  • Ability to work without close supervision and to set one's own priorities and work schedule
