Senior Computer Assisted Language Learning Lab Supervisor II, English Language Instruction Department

Reports to: Executive Assistant to Chair

Purpose: The job holder will be administering the English Language Instruction Department (ELI) servers, installing the ELI Computer Assisted Language Learning (CALL) labs and overseeing computer hardware and software. Also, researching and implementing any new IT Technology for the department.

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Supervising ELI CALL labs to ensure that the equipment is kept in good working order
  • Installing, maintaining, administering, monitoring, upgrading, diagnosing, and troubleshooting ELI servers and users of software and hardwar
  • Ensuring the provision of necessary lab supplies
  • Updating the inventory of CALL labs, equipment: hardware, software and manual
  • Establishing and overseeing usage calendar and policies
  • Following up outside vendors’ installation/repairs
  • Developing and managing designated computer security systems, password, and file protection protocol and advising the department regarding security problems
  • Assisting users by providing technical training in the use of system hardware and software
  • Controlling unauthorized users of computers
  • Develop security systems for physical and technical unauthorized use of data, software and hardware
  • Serving on the ELI computer committee
  • Preparing for testing sessions in CALL labs for the AEG Program in cooperation with faculty
  • Following up on the exam rules when the CALL labs are used as testing rooms
  • Managing the department’s testing software used in ELI exam sessions, to control unauthorized use of exams materials softcopies and students answers on the ELI Server in the AEG program
  • Analyzing and explaining complex IT technical information as needed
  • Making recommendations for software/hardware upgrading
  • Responsible for locking the CALL labs at night
  • Providing support to other ALA departments (ALI and RHET) when needed
  • Other tasks as needed

Requirements:

Minimum Education Requirement(s):  

  • University degree preferably in computer science or related field
  • Cisco certified network administrator

Experience: Minimum of two years of experience.

Skills:

  • All Microsoft Operating Systems packages (Microsoft windows for PC, Microsoft windows for server and domain, all Mac operating systems, network and security)
  • All Computer Assistance Language Learning software
  • All documents processing packages (Microsoft and Mac)
  • Web developing software (Adobe Dreamweaver)
  • Publishing software (Adobe InDesign and Microsoft Publisher)
  • Data analysis software (SPSS)
  • Very good communication and interpersonal skills
