Officer, Science Communication, Physics

Reports to: Associate Professor, Physics

Purpose: The job holder is involved in both the management and implementation of the science communication activities that are conducted through the AUC fun lab under the supervision of the director of science communication.

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Implement the goals and targets for the AUC and Misr El-Kheir science bus project as required by the director of science communication
  • Propose and implement ways to improve the current science outreach activities offered by the AUC fun lab and develop new ones that would be sustainable
  • Supervise the planning, development of activities and implementation of the summer science camp 
  • Supervise, manage and be a role model to the science communicators and ensure the quality of service at all times
  • Develop and deliver training sessions for professional development of science communication team and different stakeholders
  • Recruit new science communicators for different activities and projects and science facilitators for the science camp
  • Present science shows to the public
  • Represent the department at internal and external events as required
  • Monitor public release and marketing activities and prepare marketing and communication progress reports
  • Develop relationships with implementation partners, organizational partners and new teacher and school district partners and writing grant proposals
  • Other additional duties as assigned

Requirements:

Minimum Education Requirement:  Bachelor degree in science is required

Experience:

  • Minimum of six years of experience including three years in science communication
  • Understanding of engineering and science concepts. Also, must have an understanding of effective science pedagogy.

Skills:

  • Demonstrated project management skills and organization
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written; preferably with experience in writing curricular materials or lesson plans
  • Strong collaborative skills
  • Ability to professionally represent the Department of Physics and AUC and to form and manage partnerships
  • Good Command of Arabic and English languages
  • Excellent presentation and teaching skills
