Sales Coordinator, AUC Press Bookstore, AUC Press Bookstores

Reports to: Manager, AUC Bookstore

Purpose: The job holder will be asked to provide excellent customer service by answering all customer queries and taking special order requests by telephone and in person, in a courteous, helpful and professional manner. Operation of cash register in an accurate and efficient manner. Also assisting general bookstore manager and senior supervisors in all required tasks. He/she may be required to work in any AUC Bookstore outlet, at book fairs on and off-campus and at events after normal working hours.

Principal Accountabilities:

Customer Service

  • Advise and assist bookstore customers in the selection and purchase of books
  • Answer queries related to the bookstore from customers, face to face, through the phone and emails
  • Handle customers’ special orders and follow up with the operations team until the order arrives at the bookstore
  • Deal with customer complaints and to work to resolve any disputes/problems
  • Greet customers who enter the shop
  • Assist customers to find the items they are requesting

Bookstore Operation Work

  • Assist in updating and restocking bookshelves with new and reordered books, and to inform the book buyer of queries by customers
  • Maintain good stock of AUC Press books and carry out AUC Press orders when needed
  • Maintain bookstore cleanliness and organization
  • Apply cash and stock control systems in the bookstore accurately and thoroughly
  • Operate the cash register and ensure the end of day totals of the machine match cash and credit card slips collected
  • Assist in unpacking and pricing of new shipments as needed
  • Assist in book fairs as needed
  • Find ways of promoting AUC Bookstore services
  • Ensure the entry of marked catalogs into the computer system
  • Plan and implement special promotions with supervisors and AUC press marketing team
  • Promote and enhance the adoption of friends of the AUC Bookstore membership cards
  • Perform any other assignments requested by bookstore managers and AUC press senior management team
  • To be smartly presented and professional at all times

Requirements:

Minimum Education Requirement(s): 

  • University degree, preferably in mass communication or marketing
  • Bookstore experience and sales background is a plus

Experience:

  • Minimum of two years retail and/or promotions experience

Skills:

  • Excellent interpersonal and reading skills
  • Excellent command of the English Language, both spoken and written
  • Very good computer skills
  • Ability to operate cash registers and handle money safely and accurately
  • A genuine interest in books and literature
