Managing Director, Tahrir Cultural Center (50031377)

Purpose:  The job holder of AUC's newly launched Tahrir Cultural Center (TCC) is responsible for leading the development, planning and execution of a comprehensive program of cultural and artistic activities on the University’s iconic Tahrir Square Campus. The managing director oversees the center to ensure maximum utilization in support of AUC's cultural outreach activities and its academic mission. He/she must be adept in creating connections with University colleagues, community partners and philanthropic supporters to help develop the center as a creative and educational resource for its various constituencies. The successful candidate will provide vision, planning, and management of programs and operations, have a demonstrated commitment to developing public arts programs, an impressive publication record and extensive curatorial experience. The managing director will have a proactive interest in collaborating with professional colleagues across the University.

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive program of arts and cultural activities, including exhibitions, plays, film screenings, musical performances and lectures in collaboration with colleagues at the University
  • Lead a diverse and capable staff of the cultural center
  • Administer the center’s budget with fiscal responsibility
  • Cooperate with faculty members across departments to develop programs that complement and enhance the University’s academic mission
  • Extend AUC’s outreach to local and regional cultural organizations, artists, and performers
  • Coordinate with the University’s communications department to ensure consistent TCC branding as an extension of AUC and maximize coverage across all internal and external channels including media, website, social media, university calendar and publications
  • Work to build a donor base to support the TCC, in close collaboration with the University’s advancement office
  • Oversee the exhibition and performance venues, and other facilities serving the TCC
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues across the University to support art and culture programming on both campuses
  • Serve as a senior member of the University, actively working in support of the University’s educational mission and representing AUC to the community
  • Navigate local requirements for arts programming and liaise with the appropriate authorities
  • Foster student involvement with the TCC in support of their intellectual and educational development

Requirements:

Minimum Education Requirement:  

  • Bachelor degree is required
  • Master degree in art or related field preferred

Experience: Minimum of ten years of previous experience, out of which five years of professional experience in arts administration or related field

Skills:

  • Fluency in English and Arabic
  • Evidence of self-motivation and the ability to work effectively both individually and in teams with high personal standards and commitment to excellence
  • Ability to interact and effectively communicate with a wide array of constituents exhibiting institution’s mission and goals
  • Demonstrated success managing multiple projects simultaneously, a commitment to professional development and a track record of effectiveness and delivery on commitments
  • Proven ability in developing and managing effective relationships across all levels and functional areas of an organization; ability to collaborate and influence at a high level
  • Strong strategic planning and project management skills necessary to set and evaluate progress against goals, develop plans and timelines, establish policies and procedures, and manage data to meet tight deadlines while maintaining good relations with colleagues
  • Ability to respond quickly to changing business needs and priorities; ability to balance strategic thinking with tactical implementation
  • Facility with business analytics and intelligence to understand past performance and develop new insights to drive administrative strategy
  • An engaging, collaborative and confident communication style, effective with both individuals and groups, coupled with excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication skills
  • Strong internal and external customer focus with an emphasis on being proactive and not reactive
  • Highly collaborative and productive with the ability to turn strategy into action
  • Excellent judgment and effectiveness in problem-solving
