Research Analyst, Institutional Research

Reports to: Senior Director, Institutional Research

Purpose: The primary purpose of this position is to assist in the research design, data governance, collection, preparation, archiving, reporting, and analysis of information in support of data analytics and institutional research activities. This position will work collaboratively with other colleagues to build a strategic approach to data governance, structures, access, and availability and to communicating research and data effectively.

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Conducts institutional research and assessment analysis, including data collection and analysis activities in academic and administrative areas
  • Interprets, evaluates and clarifies research requests to determine potential data sources and informational resources; identifies and discusses research needs
  • Expands the capabilities of the University in the area of business intelligence and data analytics. Assists clients in the development of effective assessment and research models through interactions with end-users
  • Maintains a schedule of regular quality assurance data checks
  • Ensures high data quality on all University source systems
  • Assists in the analysis and interpretation of academic, student and administrative data in support of data-driven decision-making
  • Provides assistance and support in activities and reporting related to institutional accreditation efforts
  • Performs duties as assigned that support the overall objective of the position
  • Develops data dictionaries for the different data sources based on standard data definitions
  • Explores new data sources to discover, document and validate the available data
  • Responsible for preparing benchmarking data and peer comparison reports
  • Assists in all institutional initiatives related to institutional ranking
  • Performs duties as assigned that support the overall objective of the position


Minimum Education Requirement:  

  • Master’s degree preferred in a field with a strong research component.


  • Minimum six to eight years of progressively responsible experience.


  • High level of fluency in English required. The ability to read and write in Arabic is an asset
  • Familiarity with a liberal art, American-style university
  • Experience working with large enterprise data systems such as Banner and SAP
  • Detail-oriented, with the ability to produce highly accurate reports and to interpret data
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively and amicably as a member of a team
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously, learn independently, think creatively, solve problems effectively, and see the “big picture”
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
