Associate Director, Strategic Engagement and User Experience, Main Library, Libraries and Learning Technologies (10001766)

Reports to: Associate Dean, Main Library

Purpose: This position will coordinate the library's assessment and strategic planning efforts and will play a key role in demonstrating the value of the main library, based on sound assessment practices. This position will support the associate dean with partnership development and management for the main library, marketing initiatives, planning library international events, library assessment, outreach, and community engagement.


Principal Accountabilities:

  • In close coordination with the Associate Dean (AD) and heads of main library units define the library’s directions and develop plans to realize its objectives; help maintain the main library’s competitive advantage

  • Develops, coordinates, and promotes an innovative, collaborative program that supports and enables the main library’s strategic initiatives and develops evidence-based approaches for achieving the strategic objectives

  • Coordinates and administers qualitative and quantitative assessment projects and usability testing related to main library services, collections, and physical spaces, conduct regular reviews to identify strengths and weaknesses and to evaluate the effectiveness

  • Assists the AD in employing a range of communication strategies to engage the campus community and expand the reach of library services

  • Develops and implements external outreach activities and communication to promote main library resources and services

  • Manages strategic partnerships and inter-institutional agreements

  • Analyzes interpret and publicize the results of assessment and evaluation

  • Collaborates and works closely with other departments on campus engaged in assessment and planning

  • Provides up to date strategic research in the areas of users needs and expectations to the associate dean of the main library

  • Provides up to date strategic research in the areas of users needs and expectations to the monitors the strategic plan to ensure its execution

  • In coordination with the main library team plan and develop library events, programs, create event publications, collaterals, and materials according to event/conference requirements and handles all logistics and tracking for these events

  • Initiates and manages multiple conventional, digital, and other media engagement with a view towards increasing the effective use of the resources for the benefit of the research and teaching process

  • Perform other related duties as assigned



Minimum Education Requirement:

  • Business or communication qualification

  • MA degree or specialized management certification preferred


  • Minimum 10 years of progressively responsible experience with preference to experience in strategic planning, assessment, marketing, and community engagement

  • A wide range of knowledge preferably in the field of education

Working Conditions: Long hours, possible work on weekends during periods of events planning and organization; possible travel for the formulation of inter-institutional partnerships


  • Ability to understand and comprehend how different areas of the institution function together and an understanding of how to integrate ideas from different areas into a common vision

  • The ability to deal with the internal and external community, local, regional and international organizations and institutions

  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a collegial, team-based environment and to maintain positive working relationships

  • Ability to plan, manage, and oversee multiple projects, meet deadlines, and prioritize work in alignment with the strategic goals of the main library

  • Demonstrated skill in preparing reports and routine correspondence

  • Demonstrated excellence in written and oral communications skills in both English and Arabic

  • Ability to fully integrate a broad range of communications/engagement initiatives, resulting in an effective, efficient and strategic work plan

  • Strong program management skills, driven by a commitment to quality, results
