His Excellency Abdul Aziz Al Ghurair is the CEO of Mashreq Group and a member of the board of directors of the Abdulla Al Ghurair Group of Companies, with operations spanning more than 20 countries and business roots stretching back half a century.

As chairman of the Abdulla Al Ghurair Foundation for Education, His Excellency is actively establishing one of the leading institutional philanthropic initiatives focused on education. He is committed to advancing the quality of education in the Arab world and making it more accessible to all high-achieving young Emiratis and Arabs.

His Excellency has been chairman of the United Arab Emirates Banking Federation since 2012. He is also vice chairman of Dubai International Financial Centre’s higher board and chairman of Masafi Company and Oman Insurance Company. In addition, he serves as president of Family Business Network Gulf Cooperation Council (FBN GCC), a nonprofit international network that is run by family businesses, for family businesses, with the aim of strengthening family business governance and ensuring success across generations. His Excellency is also a member of the board of directors of the Emirates Foundation.

His Excellency was elected as the speaker of the United Arab Emirates Federal National Council (UAE Parliament) for a four-year tenure, which ended in February 2011. Previously, he served on the boards of directors of major companies such as Emaar, Dubai Investments, Visa International, MasterCard, and Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry. He was also co-chairman of the World Economic Forum’s Arab Business Council, a member of the Constitutive Council for GCC Leaders and president of the Knowledge Fund.

His Excellency has received countless honors recognizing his leadership and innovation, including Innovator of the Year Award - Gulf Business Industry Awards, 2014; Lifetime Achievement Award - Gulf Business Industry Awards, 2012; Best CEO Award - CEO Middle East magazine, 2008; Lifetime Achievement Award - Arab Bankers Association of North America, 2008; Best CEO Award for supporting the Emiratisation initiative in the United Arab Emirates - National Career Fair, Banking and Finance, 2008; Lifetime Achievement Award - Euromoney, 2008; Lifetime Achievement Award - Banker Middle East, 2009; Best Banking Contributing Personality Award - Banker Middle East, 2011; MEED Leadership Award, 2011; and Arab Banker of the Year in the Private Sector Award - Union of Arab Banks in Rome, Italy, 2010 - 2011.

His Excellency earned an honors degree from California Polytechnic State University, where he graduated as an industrial engineer.
