Director, Director of Egyptian Government Relations, Office of the Counselor (50031062 )

Reports to: University Counselor

Purpose: The director of the Egyptian government relations will serve as the University Counselor’s primary strategic liaison with the Egyptian government and universities to perform special assignments. He/she should be accountable for overseeing facilitating all activities, logistics and communications between key governmental officials, ministries, University Presidents and AUC senior administration. He/She will be responsible for carrying out duties as assigned by the University Counselor, and shall act as a support adviser in case of the University Counselor’s absence.

Principal Accountabilities: 

  • Leadership and communication with the Egyptian government and competent Egyptian authorities 
  • Liaising and facilitating the increasing engagement activities with national and international Universities
  • Maintain the counselor positive relations with Egyptian authorities and AUC, in parallel with the AUC communication strategic plan
  • Managing all administrative work and communication for key governmental officials’ invitations for AUC events and assisting in their welcoming process and attending to their needs
  • Coordinate the execution of office of the counselor’s overall vision, mission and strategic goals
  • Assess inquiries directed by the University Counselor, determine the proper course of action and delegate to the appropriate individual to manage
  • Assist the counselor in facilitating decision-making
  • Monitor and track progress toward goals and measure analytics
  • Assist in in growth and development of the counselor’s office 
  • Maintain an extensive network of government officials connections that can be tapped for new outreach
  • Attend and actively participate in senior staff meetings, offering ideas, insights and recommendations
  • Managing the accreditation and re-accreditation procedures for degrees from the Supreme Council of Universities involving follow-up with both departments and the Supreme Council of Universities
  • Ensure office compliance with policies and procedures
  • Evaluate and monitor staff performance
  • Maintain a safe and secure working environment

Minimum Education Requirement:  Bachelor’s degree required. Higher education or a related field preferred. Professional post graduate diploma in management is an asset
Experience: A minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in the administrative support field


  • Excellent communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal management skills and demonstrated ability to take initiative and independent judgments
  • Ability to work strategically and collaboratively internally and externally 
  • Must be extremely well organized, detail oriented, capable of independently managing multiple and competing priorities while meeting deadlines and able to perform well under pressure
  • Excellent computer skills including MS Word and Excel, as well as familiarity with SAP
  • Handle highly confidential and sensitive materials and situations
  • Complete fluency in spoken and written English and Arabic
  • Ability to interact with a diverse population of students, faculty, staff and other constituencies with tact and good humor
