Director, Donor Relations- Development Office (10000976)

Reports to: Senior Director, Advancement Services

Purpose: Reporting to the Senior Director for Advancement Services, the Director of Donor Relations is responsible for the strategic planning and management of all stewardship and donor engagement activities. The director of donor relations liaises with the office of the president and other AC units as the principal writer for the president’s correspondence with donors and alumni; generates impact, endowment and other donor recognition reports; plans and oversees stewardship events and maintains an operations system that provides timely and high-quality service for the fundraising team and University donors, including proposal writing. The jobholder supervises the senior donor relations officer and some responsibilities of the presidential intern to ensure the production of timely and high-quality donor engagement.

Principal Accountabilities: 

  • Develop and manage an operations strategy for stewardship and donor engagement and communications where services are delivered in a high-quality and timely manner;

  • Oversee the development, implementation, and evaluation of University donor stewardship program, ensure donors are recognized appropriately

  • Develop customized stewardship plans for specific donors

  • Produce high-quality funding proposals in line with the University’s funding priorities and strategic plan

  • Provide needed support for the upcoming centennial campaign

  • Plan and oversee stewardship and fundraising events in partnership with University Events

  • Serve as principal writer for presidential correspondence with donors and alumni to ensure timely acknowledgment of gifts

  • Draft and manage personalized presidential letters to donors and alumni, including congratulatory letters, condolences, and fund updates

  • Draft president’s talking points for AC events

  • Maintain and manage continuous communication with donors through diverse communications channels including donor events, giving the website and AC publications

  • Produce monthly messages to top donors from deans, University president, provost and vice presidents

  • Draft scripts for stewardship videos

  • Proofread and edit all stewardship materials

  • Work with fundraising support team on maintaining and updating donor records 

  • Work closely with the president’s office and the University events office to organize top donor events

  • Liaison between University offices and AC units on fundraising support-related issues

  • Measure the effectiveness and performance of all donor relations services and introduce a continuous improvement to the process and outcomes 

Requirements: 
Minimum education requirement:  

  • Bachelor’s degree required 

Experience:

  • A minimum of 12 years of work experience, preferably for a non-profit institution.

  • Experience with donor relations and philanthropy a plus 

Skills: 

  • Exceptional organizational and management skills

  • Detail oriented, with a high level of commitment to quality and reliability

  • Excellent communications, problem-solving and follow up abilities

  • Self-motivator who can work independently and in a team

  • Able to work under pressure in a dynamic work environment, with multiple priorities and deadlines

  • Team leader, who can motivate, lead and evaluate a multi-functional team

  • Confidence in dealing with budgets, numerical data and project tracking tools
