Researcher III (Agriculture), Associate Dean for Graduate Studies and Research (Grant Position)

Reports to: RISE Assistant Director, Community Engagement

Purpose: The job holder carries research and community development tasks as part of the Institute’s Research Unit including applied research trials, as well as social and technical research on sustainable resource management in Egypt. He/she acts as a member of a research team. The job may entail travel to off-campus research locations. The job holder will be responsible for implementing rooftop gardens in the project location as part of the Food for the Future project.

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Conducting research projects, applying research methodologies that include surveys and interviews, community assessments, focus groups, agricultural trials, and technical assessments
  • Analyzing research data and producing research reports and publications
  • Conducting field work at the project locations (this might require field trips of several days to remote locations)
  • Implementing rooftop gardens project in the project location
  • Providing support in the planning and implementation of sustainable resource management solutions for communities
  • Supervising students and interns as part of RISE’s Living Learning Laboratory, work study and internship programs
  • Occasional involvement as teacher or trainer in RISE’s educational programs
  • Assisting with RISE’s on-campus sustainability campaigns

Requirements:

Minimum Education Requirement: Bachelor’s degree in agriculture

Experience: Five years of experience

Skills:

  • Ability to conduct academic research
  • Fluent English and Arabic skills
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills
  • Good analytical and writing skills in English (Arabic is a plus)
  • Interest in sustainable resource management and community development
  • Interest in learning and applying different research methodologies
  • Good teamwork skills
  • Ability to work in remote locations and to connect with local communities
  • Working experience with Windows Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
