Health Inequities
Health Inequities and Their Policy Implications
The program of research is driven by a concern that health equity is not realized and that our current policies have not effectively reduced the unfair and remediable inequalities in health.
The focus of the program is on three aspects, including data collection documenting health inequities, analysis to guide public policy formulation, and partnership and communication to bring health equity to the forefront of attention. The membership of SRC director in the in the 2008 World Health Organization commission on “social determinants of health’ allowed this theme to benefit from and contribute to this international endeavor.
Examples of activities under this program include:
Partnership of SRC with the World Health Organization to develop a regional health observatory
Participation of SRC in a network of regional public health scholars
Production of a book on public health in the Arab region
Research and activities to inform mainstreaming of health in social policies
