YJ-STRC Friends

DIRECTOR'S MESSAGE

It is my pleasure to pursue phase II of the dream by launching the $10 Million fundraising campaign to make the five-year strategic plan a reality. Our vision is to establish a world-class research facility that acts as a catalyst for brain gain of high caliber expatriates.

We fancy the YJ-STRC to facilitate opportunities for talented young researchers to pursue their career goals and prepare them to lead the advancement of science and technology in the region and ultimately the world.

We believe that our aspirations and objectives can only be realized through the collective efforts and generous contribution of our distinguished faculty, alumni and community at large. You are all invited to join our “STRC Friends” Initiative to unite our efforts in bringing Egypt and the region to the forefront of science and technology.

Our Mission

Today’s facts are yesterday’s dreams and today’s dreams will be tomorrow’s realities. Dreams can, and do come true. A few years ago, a group of scientists at AUC had a dream of changing the scientific landscape in the Middle East, a dream of putting Egypt on the map of technological innovation, a dream of reversing our nation’s brain-drain.  They proposed establishing a world-class research center.

Mr. Yousef Jameel believed in the same dream and generously donated funds establishing the Yousef Jameel Science and Technology Research Center YJ-STRC.  In a few years, the center established itself as a premier research laboratory in the areas of nanotechnology, biotechnology, marine genomics, novel diagnostics and therapeutics. Today, it is a beacon of light attracting bright young graduates and providing them with unparalleled training in science and technology, helping to build our nation’s scientific capital and finding solutions to national challenges.

To attract top graduates, the center offers full fellowships covering the tuition and stipend.  A two-year Master’s fellowship (including stipend) costs $36,000, and a four-year PhD. fellowship costs $124,000

Objectives of the STRC Friends Initiative

The purpose of this initiative is to connect with friends, who share the dream. Those who believe that Egypt can lead, build and accomplish in science and education.

Your contribution will advance the local industry, and strengthen our economy. The center is now entirely dependent on voluntary contributions, and research grants. You can make a big difference with contributions as small as $1000 or as large as $20,000. Your generous contribution will be greatly appreciated and acknowledged by having your name, photo and biography on the center’s webpage, and you will receive the center’s quarterly newsletters, and reports about the students you’re supporting.  You will be an official member of the STRC friends.
