Parking at AUC

AUC has provided an extensive bus system that will provide comprehensive and flexible service over a wide range of routes throughout greater Cairo and you are encouraged to consider commuting to the new campus by bus.  For those members of the AUC community who feel that the bus service does not meet their unique needs, limited on-campus parking services are available.

There are 1,500 parking spaces provided across twelve different lots that are available for holders of a valid AUC parking permit. In addition, there are 150 parking spaces in a Visitors Only lot for short-term parking located at the end of the campus nearest the park & square, welcome center, bookstore and PVA theater. If the demand for parking exceeds that initially available, an additional 500 parking spaces will be built with a target availability date of mid-October. In the event that the original number of permits in any category are “sold out”, a waiting-list will be maintained and a second release of permits will accompany the opening of the new parking lots.

All parking lots are located outside the pedestrian-only zone on the campus and are conveniently situated within walking distance of the three main pedestrian entrances to the inner campus and the main buildings. Click here to see a map of the campus and the location of parking lots. Lots #8 and #15 are reserved for holders of a staff / faculty parking permit.  There are no individually reserved spaces in any of the parking lots.

Parking permits will be required to park on campus once classes begin. All full or part-time AUC students, faculty and staff are eligible for parking permits. Permits are issued on a ‘first-come, first-serve’ basis and are valid from September to August.

Parking permits will be in the form of a ‘hanging tag’ that has an embedded RFID (radio-frequency-identification) chip  which will automatically be read and verified as the car approaches the gatehouse at each of the three entrances that provide access to permit parking.  As the permit is verified by the system, the red stop light will change to green and you can simply drive through.  (In the event the light does not change to green, you will be asked by security staff to pull over to the side while the verification problem is resolved.)

One of the key advantages of the hanging tag permit is that it is transferable from one vehicle to another so that if you are temporarily using another vehicle or if you are part of a group that wishes to “car-pool” and share the driving responsibilities, the tag can simply be moved to the other car.  However, it is important to note that the individual to whom the parking permit was issued remains responsible for the use of the permit and compliance with all AUC parking regulations (Click here to review AUC parking policies and regulations).

Except as provided for in the AUC parking policies & regulations, overnight parking is not permitted on campus.
