Dear AUC Community,
I write to update you on the current status of events and the actions we are taking to resolve the current campus closure as quickly as possible.
I realize many of you in the AUC community — students, faculty and staff alike — are frustrated by our inability to resume work as we normally would on campus. Over the weekend, faculty worked tirelessly to find ways to deliver materials and organize sessions with their students, while staff searched for ways to deliver work outputs remotely; yet students nonetheless and understandably feel that they are being deprived of the full educational experience they want and deserve. By finding ways to continue and to persevere, however, we as a community are collectively expressing our commitment to the values of the University and to the educational mission that we all share.
As I have said before, the current resumption of classes off the New Cairo campus and partly online is a temporary measure; it allows us to resume instruction while we simultaneously work toward a peaceful resolution. We have been in almost constant discussions with students, members of the Parents Association, alumni, faculty and staff around formalizing an agreement that would allow for the opening of the New Cairo campus. We have already agreed to a number of the proposals of the students and are open to the discussion of further ideas. This afternoon, there will be another meeting between the administration and a number of student representatives of various groups, including the Student Union, which will also include attendees from the Parents Association board, faculty senate and alumni.
We have set up an email Community Hotline to receive and direct both questions and comments email@example.com. Questions that cannot be answered by the staff manning the hotline will be directed to the appropriate person or office. In addition, the hotline will serve as a source for the compilation of comments or general feedback that members of the AUC community wish to send.
I once again wish to express my sincere appreciation to all the members of the AUC community who have devoted themselves to helping the University continue to fulfill its mission in these challenging times and who are working with us on reaching a resolution.
