Allehedan Allocates an Endowment to Establish a Scholarship and Scientific Research Fund at AUC

The American University in Cairo (AUC) announced today the establishment of “Mohammed Bin Abdulkarim A. Allehedan Endowed Scholarship and Scientific Research Fund.” The endowed scholarship and scientific fund, which aims at supporting talented and financially disadvantaged students and encouraging specialized scientific research in uncommon disciplines in the Arab world, comes as a generous initiative from Saudi Businessman Mohammed Bin Abdulkarim A. Allehedan. The agreement to the fund was signed today at AUC in New Cairo by Allehedan and Lisa Anderson, president of AUC.“Scientific education is the most important factor in nations’ advancement and the Arab world will never develop unless we focus on education,” said Sheikh Allehedan. “So I searched for the best place to allocate an educational fund and found that the best place would be a university in Egypt, to the AUC.” Anderson said at the signing, “We hope this fund represents a sense of confidence in what AUC represents to Egypt and to the region both as a research and educational institution. Within the next few years we will be celebrating our centennial in Egypt and to be able to say that people like Sheikh Allehedan believe in us and what we do is an enormous gift in itself. What this gift will support in education and research should make a difference in Egypt and the region and we are very proud to be the recipient of this kind of financial support and even more the moral support and the endorsement of someone of Allehedan’s caliber, generosity and mission.” The fund is dedicated to basic science such as mathematics, engineering, physics, chemistry, biology, energy and petroleum, water and environment, economics, and development. It is dedicated to provide scholarships for bachelor’s, master’s, and Ph.D. degrees and to scientific research grants dealing with development in the Arab world. The fund will also support annual prizes presented to distinguished students and patent holders from students or staff. It also aims at supporting scientific achievements, research, and Arabs’ innovative and creative cultural contributions to various life activities on humanity level. Through this fund, Allehedan hopes to contribute to human development of the Arab society through development of some of its members, improvement of their living standards and family well-being and increase of their active and positive opportunities of participation in the Arab world.  Recipient of the scholarships must be of the nationality of an Arab state or from Arab origin regardless of his/her place of residence.  As Allehedan explained, the objective also behind the fund is to spread the culture of tolerance and coexistence among members of the Arab world without discrimination based on religion, faith, tribe, family, nationality, region, or any other form of discrimination.
