 How to Make Your Selection

In order to make a just choice to where you will be spending your semester or year abroad, please follow the steps below. These steps are guidelines that will assist you in making a decision on where to study and for how long to stay.

Check the attached file for the availability of your major in the university of your choice.   Universities Listed by Major.

  • List three universities that you would wish to spend your study abroad period.
  • Tentatively check the course offerings at the university of your choice.
  • Book an appointment to sit with a member of the Study Abroad team at the International Programs Office for further information and input.

Course Transfer

Most of the credits earned at the host university are transferred back to AUC. Careful planning of the courses enables you to transfer the earned credits taken at the host institution. This step starts as early as when choosing your preferred destination.

Upon completion of your study abroad period in the host university make sure that you request an official transcript to be sent to the International Programs Office.
All courses that you took during your study abroad period will show on your AUC transcript. Only grade “C” or above will be counted as an earned credit without affecting your GPA at AUC.

Courses that you score a grade “C – ”, or below, will show on your AUC transcript but will not be transferred back to AUC.

Upon acceptance in the program and signing the contract, you will need to schedule an appointment with Mrs. Fahima in the registrar to discuss credit transfer of the desired courses to be taken at host university. On her end, she will be getting the official approvals from the professors in each department which will enable you to know prior to your travel which courses to take overseas.

Majors available in each destination

Finding the right to continue your education can be a challenge especially with so many choices available today, below are the offered opportunities. See which universities offer your majors, duration of study and room and board arrangements by downloading this pdf file.

Financial Information

Most of the students believe that the cost of the study abroad semester is high, misunderstanding that they have to pay the tuition fees of the partner institution. Under the exchange program the students pay the tuition fees of AUC and are exempted from paying the tuition fees of the partner institution.
In some arrangements the student pays the accommodation fees and/or board directly to AUC. To find out which arrangement is valid for each university read the list below:

Universities which have exchange of board and room fees:

  • St. Andrews University
  • Penn State University
  • University of Colorado, Boulder
  • University of Massachusetts, Amherst
  • University of Washington, Seattle
  • Washington College, Maryland

Universities which have exchange of room fees only:

  • Simon Fraser University
  • Kansai Gaidai University

- The board and room fees are the announced AUC fees.

Financial Aid:

All students receiving financial aid, and scholarships will continue to receive them during the study abroad semester in most cases.

Some of the partner universities provide scholarships to AUC students which cover tuition, accommodation, dorms, books, etc. Those scholarships will be announced through the International Programs Office.

AUC also offers scholarships to its students on different occasions. Those will be announced through the AUC caravan, on the website and during presentations held for the students each semester.
Travel

The International Programs Office recommends that the students book his/her ticket in advance and to travel in groups along with his colleagues to the selected destination. This will help you in finding your way once you arrive and settle in, and will ease the frustrations resulting from flight, jet lag and any other problems which may arise.

AUC travel office provides excellent services for the AUC community and we recommend that you use their services.

Visa

The visa issuance is the responsibility of the student. However, the International Programs Office provides documents which might be needed from AUC to facilitate the visa procedures for its students. We also give guidance to students in terms of planning for visa issuance, tips for interview, etc.

Note that the visas of some countries take as long as two months to be issued. So be prepared for lengthy procedures to issue your visa.
