Academic Advising for Incoming Study Abroad (ISABs) and Non-Degree Students

Congratulations on being accepted to AUC's Study Abroad Program. This page provides information on the advising and registration process required for the courses you plan to take at AUC.

The Director of International Academic Advising in the International Programs Office (IPO) provides guidance for students who seek to enrich their university education through Study Abroad.

General academic advising and registration information

  • AUC runs on the semester system: Fall, Winter, Spring and Summer.
  • Students choose courses from general undergraduate listings.
  • Students must register during the official registration period at the times announced in the university calendar .
  • Incoming students are allowed to enroll in any of the offered courses as long as they fulfill the required pre-requisites.
  • Incoming study abroad students are advised to register in 300 – 400 level courses, in rare cases 200/500 level courses (except for Arabic language courses)
  • Constraints for registering in 200 level courses: most incoming students are of junior or senior status and 200 level courses might be too easy.
  • For 500 level courses: these are graduate courses. Incoming study abroad students who wish to enroll in such courses need prior permission from the international academic advisor.

Accepted incoming study abroad students should follow these steps to complete and finalize their advising and course registration process at AUC.

1. Meet your advisor at your home institution

Incoming Study Abroad students / Non degree students who are accepted to study at AUC should plan the courses that they wish to enroll in before the actual registration process. Each individual student should spend some time with his or her advisor at their home school deciding and planning which courses they will take during their study at AUC.

List eight - ten courses (give course designations, number and title) per semester that you wish to take at AUC. We recommend that you have these approved by your home university to facilitate transfer of credits. Courses maybe found at AUC’s catalog; semester course offerings are available on the Registrars webpage at student.aucegypt.edu.

2. Choose your courses

Working towards fulfilling AUC mission to enrich the quality of study abroad programs for international students, the international programs office (IPO) has compiled a list of courses that allow study abroad students to study, in the context of global studies, cultural, political, historical and economic aspects of the Middle East and Egypt. To learn more about such courses check out recommended courses specifically for International students. For more details on course offerings and descriptions visit the AUC Catalog .

3. Review the AUC Class Schedule

Students should check the class offerings on AUC’s class schedule each semester and plan a four or five course schedule, making sure that there are no time clashes in the selected courses.

4. Submit the Preliminary Course Planning Form (PCP)

While you will actually register for four or five courses a semester (two for Summer or Winter session) the PCP will act as a guide and the prior approval should help you maximize the transfer of credit to your home institution. Click here to complete the Preliminary Course Planning Form (PCP).
