After you familiarize yourself with the program options on the website, you should make an appointment to discuss your interests with the academic advisor at your home institution, as well as the Director of International Academic Advising at the International Programs office at AUC.
General Questions
When is the best time to study abroad at AUC?
AUC welcomes International students to study at AUC during Fall, Winter, Spring and Summer semesters. Check out the admissions website for deadlines and more details.
I don't speak Arabic? Can I still study at AUC?
Yes. AUC offers a wide range of courses in all majors, all taught in English except for the Arabic language courses, which are taught in Arabic. If you wish to learn Arabic, AUC also offers an array of Arabic Language courses, both intensive Arabic and survival Arabic for newcomers.
Where can I find the information and courses offered every semester?
Course offerings are available on the AUC website http://www.aucegypt.edu/currstudents under Class Schedule. In addition general course offerings are available in the AUC Catalog .
What happens if I miss my registration dates?
There will be a specified period for late course registration and Drop/Add period during the orientation time at the beginning of the semester
I want to study Arabic; do I need to sit for a placement test?
If you are going to start learning Arabic from scratch, you do not need to take the Arabic placement test; you can directly enroll in any of the Elementary Arabic Language courses.
If you have studied Arabic before, and intend to take Arabic courses at AUC you will need to take the online Arabic placement test.
How do I know the credits will transfer?
AUC is an accredited university; all you need is to check with your study abroad advisor at your home institution or your department of major to have a preliminary course approval for the intended courses at AUC. And, before the end of the semester you will have to order an official transcript to be mailed to your home institution.
What if I don’t like the courses I chose and want to change them?
If the online registration does not allow you to change your courses, you will be able to do so in the drop and add period during the first week of classes.
What is the common full time academic load per semester?
A full time student should be registered in a minimum of 12 – 15 credit hours in the Fall or Spring semesters, 7 credits in the Summer and 4 credits in the Winter session.
What is my maximum course load allowed?
You will need permission to exceed the full academic load based on your academic records. You can take up to a maximum of 21 credit hours during a Fall or Spring Semester.
Can a course be cancelled at the beginning of the semester?
Some courses may be cancelled for low enrollment and this will be shown on the class schedule.
Can I extend my study period to the following semester?
You will be receiving an email asking you if you would like to extend e.g. Fall to Spring. You will need to reply to this email and IPO will add you to their list and inform the NYO.
Advising and Registration Questions
How do I register for my classes?
After your acceptance you will receive information and a web link for dates and procedures.
Registration for courses will be done by IPO and ALNG Registration will be done by IPO based on the Preliminary Course Planning form (PCP) you will be submitting online, before the beginning of your starting semester. You will have to submit the forms on time and we will register your classes. There is no online registration.
I want to study Arabic; do I need to sit for a placement test?

I am planning to take ALNG courses?
If you are taking Arabic Language, please read the Arabic section at the end of the page thoroughly http://www.aucegypt.edu/intstudents/intprograms/academicadvising/ and email your ALNG resume , you can also view the courses offered in ALNG for the FALL semester by downloading the word file on the website to see the prerequisites.
Who needs to take the placement test?
Students with no background in Arabic planning to enroll in Colloquial Arabic do not need to take the placement test. You can sign up for ALNG 109 (01, 02,03)
Those planning to enroll in Modern Standard Arabic (MSA) can sign up for ALNG 101 (01,03,05) and ALNG 111 901, 02, 03.
How do I fill out my PCP in regards to ALNG placement?
If you are taking ALNG courses, while filling out your PCP, please note that you have to receive your ALNG Placement first, in order to choose your other courses with no time conflict with the ALNG courses. In case you have submitted your PCP before you received your ALNG placement, resubmit a new PCP to reflect the changes with no time clashes.
I have not received my ALNG placement?
To receive your ALNG placement; all students are required to send in their Arabic resume on website. If you have background in Arabic you need to sit for the online Placement test and send in your writing component as well. Give at least a few days to process your placement. If you don’t get your placement

I am studying Arabic over the summer and will be at a different level at the end of the summer than I am now?
You will be placed at your current level. At the beginning of the semester during the late registration and drop/add period you can be reevaluated.
How do I submit my PCP?
The PCP direct link http://forms.aucegypt.edu/pcp/pcp.html (also on our academic advising website). You are responsible not to have any time clashes.
Where do I find my AUC student ID number that is required for the class scheduling; in order to submit my PCP?
Your Pin # is on the top right corner of your acceptance letter
How do I access the Schedule of Classes?

You don’t need your ID or PIN to go to the schedule of classes. Simply on the website go to: - Tab International students
- Under Admissions and Academics, click " Class Schedule"

I cannot access the schedule of classes?
You have experience errors with class schedule on AUC website

What if some of the classes I am interested in have filled up already?
Some of the courses on the class schedule will show (section closed) as IPO has reserved some places for ISABs in most courses, and this is how the system understands that these places are booked. The sooner you send in your PCP, courses are registered first come first serve.
What if I don’t like the courses I chose and want to change them?
Resubmit a new PCP that reflects your requested courses. Also you will be able to do so in the drop and add period during the first week of classes.

I still did not receive a confirmation or PIN# to log into the web for students and check my course schedule?
You will be receiving an email with your PIN# to check your schedule for the registered course as soon as IPO has registered you according to your sent in PCP – this step might take some time until all the students for the fall semester are registered.
I am interested in taking a 500 Level Course?
If you are interested in taking a 500 level (graduate) course as a study abroad undergraduate, you are have get the instructor’s approval. Please download the 500 level course permission form on the registrar website and send a separate email to IPO with the course no. and section indicating why you are interested in taking this course and IPO will proceed with getting the professor permission according to your transcript.
Do I need to fulfill the pre-requisites of the courses I am planning to study at AUC?
You will need to check the AUC catalog for courses that require pre-requisites. And list the courses you have taken that are equivalent in your course study plan. Only by prior notification to the international Academic Advisor you will be able to register in those courses to waive pre-requisites.
Courses that require “Instructor Approval” to enroll?
You will need to get in contact with of the director of international academic advising to allow you registering in such courses. In very rare cases students are required to get approvals from professors, this will be facilitated through the international academic advisor.
What if the class I want to enroll in is full/closed before I had the chance to register in it?
You will be registered for another alternative course listed on your Priliminary Course Planning form ( PCP).
