Jameel MBA Fellows Program

The program’s primary objective is to identify and prepare future industrial leaders who have strong knowledge and skills in science and engineering coupled with superior business management and decision making skills. The program is designed to develop a new cadre of entrepreneurial leaders who can fill critical leadership positions in Egypt and the Middle East and who can successfully integrate technical and business skills to manage and compete in a global market. The program will enable qualified Egyptian and Palestinian engineering and science college graduates to attend the MBA program at AUC on a full tuition-free scholarship basis.

Eligibility
Applicants who hold Egyptian or Palestinian nationalities and who have received their bachelor degrees in engineering (mechanical, electrical, industrial, etc) or science (pharmacy, medicine, computers, chemistry, etc.) from an accredited university. Applicants are expected to have scored top marks at the bachelor level and have a strong command of the English language. Relevant experience is required and applicants should also have or are in the process of pursuing a career in Industry. Candidates who meet all criteria and are admitted into the program but require additional English language training will be enrolled in AUC’s English Language Institute program to strengthen their language skills to insure success in the program.

Admission Requirements
Students who apply to the program must satisfy the following requirements:

• Hold an Egyptian or a Palestinian nationality.
• Received a Bachelor of Engineering or Science degree in a scientific field with a minimum overall grade point average of 3.00 on a 4.00 point scale or of very good (Gayyid Giddan) or of equivalent ranking from other universities.
• Have a proven knowledge of the English language for graduate studies. This can be established by having an undergraduate degree from an accredited English medium university, or acceptable scores on the TOEFL, IELTS or ELPET exams.
• Score an acceptable level on the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT).
• Have at least 3 years of relevant professional experience beyond the bachelor degree in industry or related sectors.
Proven financial need which makes joining the MBA outside this program not possible.

Program Design and Administration
The program will admit 25 students for each cohort. Students are expected to complete the academic program (48 credit hours) in two full years. Students who have a deficiency in the English language may take a longer period to complete their studies and will be admitted into AUC’s English Language Institute for additional training. In addition to the academic courses, the program will be enriched through:

• Presentations by guest speakers from business and industry.
• Visits to industrial companies which exhibit good production and management practices.
• Business case studies from the local business community.
• Retreats to discuss industrial issues with prominent leaders in business.

During their studies students will have a faculty advisor to advise and mentor them throughout the program. Students will join other MBA students in classes, which will enhance their learning experience. Students are expected to abide by all applicable AUC policies and regulations for graduate studies.

Evaluation of Applications
After initial screening on the basis of financial need and academic credentials, further assessment of the applicants will be performed on the basis of essays and case studies. Short listed candidates will participate in another phase of testing in Cairo which will focus on the following criteria:

• Values and attitudes: ethical issues, cultural diversity, social responsibility, adaptation, and commitment to life-long learning.
• Skills: creativity, imagination, group dynamics, team player, leadership potential, learning skills, interpersonal skills, analytical thinking.
• Maturity: emotional, social, citizenship.
• Career advancement: progress on the job, entrepreneurial spirit.

Duration
The fellowship is awarded for one year beginning in September and may be renewed for a second year with the approval of the Dean of the School of Business, Economics, and Communication.

Award
Fellows receive a tuition and fees waiver and stipend for books and supplies.

Application Deadline
The application and all required documents must be submitted to the office of the Dean of the School of Business, Economics, and Communication no later than:

November 1 for the spring semester
March 31 for the fall semester

Instructions

Transcripts
You need to submit an official copy of your transcript from each university you have attended, unless you have already done so with your application for graduate study.

Letters of Recommendation
Two letters of recommendation are required from professors who are familiar with your academic background. These should be sent directly to Jameel MBA Fellows Program c/o Director, 20 Mohamed Mahmoud St. Full instructions are on the forms themselves.

Personal Statement
You are required to submit an essay with your application. This essay should be neatly typed and should directly answer the questions posed in question 10 of the application.

Interview
At the discretion of the School of Business, Economics, and Communication you are applying to, you may be asked to attend several interviews. You will be contacted if it is necessary for you to be interviewed.

Deadline
The application form and required documents must be received by the office of the Dean of the School of Business, Economics, and Communication no later than:

November 1st for the Spring semester and
March 31st for the Fall semester

Selection of fellowship recipients is made by the school in June and the fellowship begins the following September.
