Testing and evaluation are conducted for all instructional training programs at the School of Continuing Education for quality assurance purposes.
TESTING
Tests are offered in the following areas: Business, Computer & IT, Translation, and Languages (English, Arabic, German, French and Spanish).
Several types of tests are conducted: regular scheduled tests, special not-scheduled tests (for special fees), make up tests and exemption with/without examinations.
English Language Placement Tests – General
- English Written Placement Test (EWPT): to assess a learner’s written English proficiency to be admitted to an English course or join a training program. For English courses, there is no pass or fail grade. A test score places a learner into the suitable regular English level/stage. For training programs, based on the score, a learner/trainee may be exempted from joining a regular English course.
- English Oral Placement Test (EOPT): to assess learner’s oral English proficiency through an interview before being admitted to a conversational English course or a business certificate.
- SCE Paper & Pencil TOEFL Placement Test: to place a learner/trainee into a TOEFL preparation course.
Learner Admission Tests – Specific Programs
-
Translation Admission Test (TAT): to assess a learner’s ability to exhibit competence in translation: English / Arabic / English and French / Arabic / French.
- Proficiency Test in Modern Standard Arabic (PTMSA): to assess a learner’s competence in modern standard Arabic.
- Proficiency Test in Spoken Arabic of Cairo (PTSAC): to assess a learner’s competence in spoken Arabic of Cairo.
- Simultaneous Interpretation Interview: to make sure the learner does not suffer from any vocalization defect.
- Written and Oral Language Placement Tests: to assess a learner’s competence in French, German or Spanish: French Written Placement Test (FWPT), German Written Placement Test (GWPT), German Oral Placement Test (GOPT) and Spanish Written Placement Test (SWPT).
EVALUATION
Evaluation is the best tool for measuring program quality and effectiveness, as well as identifying problem areas, highlighting strengths and weaknesses of various instructional and administrative aspects. Evaluation is conducted from a variety of perspectives:
1.
learners/trainees evaluate the instructional process in all regular/customized program classes through the Learner/Trainee Evaluation of Instruction (LEI/TEI) instruments. In addition, Junior Summer Program (JSP) students and parents evaluate the program offered each Summer in Heliopolis or downtown.
2.
Instructors are evaluated at least once a year by class visits conducted by administrators through the Administration Evaluation of Instructor (AEI) instrument.
3.
Instructors evaluate the administration once a year through the Instructor Evaluation of Administration (IEA) instrument.
Through this multi-faceted evaluation, SCE identifies areas that need improvement, enhances the programs and services quality, and fulfills learners’/trainees’ needs for quality education and training.
