Criteria for Admission

Admission at the School of Continuing Education is open to you if you are fulfilling any of the following criteria:

Graduate or undergraduate student in good standing at AUC or any other approved university

Holding a Thanawiya Amma or any high school certificate

Individuals whose educational background or experience qualifies you for the courses / certificates they wish to take

Individuals of any English level competency who may wish to study the English language
Criteria for Admission to Education Programs

Bachelor's degree with at least "Good" (3.0 grade point average)
-
Satisfactory score on PCTEFLA Admissions Test
-
For Educational Leadership: at least 2 years experience as teacher/school administrator
-
For Early Literacy Education: at least one year as a pre-primary or primary school teacher
Acceptance into a program offered by SCE does not imply acceptance as a degree candidate in any division or department of The American University in Cairo.
Application Procedures

Provide your personal identity card to the Admissions Office (Room 03 Tahrir Square building)

Obtain a bill of payment from Room 102 and pay the appropriate entrance exam fee at the Cashier (Room 103). If you are applying for admittance to English Language courses you will be required to pay full tuition fees upon admission.

Obtain a Testing and Information Card with a student identification number from Room 03. This card indicates the dates, times and locations of the admission tests, depending on the program you wish to join. Please read carefully the instructions on the card.
Admission Tests

English Language: Take the English Proficiency Test (EPT) and based on your score, you will be advised on the level of the regular English language course that is appropriate for you.

Business: English Proficiency Test (EPT) with a minimum score of 71% and an interview that includes an English Oral Placement Test (EOPT)

Computer and Information Technology: English Proficiency Test (EPT) with a minimum score of 55%

Education: Take the PCTEFLA (Preliminary Certificate for Teaching English as a Foreign Language to Adults) Admissions Examination offered by SCE. This package includes a sample TOEFL test plus an essay test similar to the Test of Written English.

Translation: Translation Admission Test (TAT) with a minimum score of 70%
Native speakers are exempted from EPT. All admission tests are valid for 6 months.
Certificates
Bachelor's degree with "Good" (or a 3.0 grade point average out of 4); Secondary School Teaching candidates must have a bachelor’s degree in a field relevant to the subject they will be teaching.
- Satisfactory score on PCTEFLA English Admissions Test
- Experience:
- Early Literacy Education: One or more years as a pre-primary or primary school teacher
- Teaching (for Non- Education Majors): No teaching experience is required
- Secondary School Teaching: No teaching experience is required
- Educational Technology for Classroom Teachers: Two or more years as a classroom teacher
- Teaching Diverse Learners: Two or more years as a classroom teacher
Educational Leadership: Two or more years experience as a teacher/school administrator
Parenting
- No formal requirements for admission to parenting classes
- Intermediate-level competence in spoken English is recommended
