Graduate Student Services
The Writing Center is open for drop-in tutoring sessions from 10 am to 3 pm, Sunday through Thursday (9:20-1:55 during Ramadan). Because many graduate students are employed part-time or full-time and their writing projects often require focused instruction or different tutoring times, the following services are available for graduate students:
Graduate Student Hours
The Writing Center is open for special afternoon hours every Monday from 3 pm to 5:30 pm (2-4 Ramadan), Tuesday from 3-4:30 (2-3 Ramadan), Wednesday from 3:30-6 pm (2:30-4:30 Ramadan) for graduate students to visit for a tutoring session. No appointments are needed. On Tuesday, a professor from the school of Business and Economics is on staff. On Wednesday, a professor of Sociology is on staff.
Research and Writing Open Lab
Together with the library, the Writing Center offers a research and writing open lab for graduate students every Wednesday from 5:30 pm to 8 pm (2-4 during Ramadan) in the Main Library's Instruction Lab on the 4th floor. Because graduate-level work requires intensive research and writing, this open lab provides a great opportunity for graduate students to work closely with a librarian and tutor in one place.
Types of graduate projects and assignments you might bring to the open lab are:
- Reaction Papers
- Literature Reviews
- Abstracts
- Outlines
- Thesis Chapters
- PowerPoint Presentations
- Annotated Bibliographies
Workshops
Workshops are scheduled throughout the term on a variety of communication topics. These workshops provide you with a great opportunity to review and practice for assignments in all classes!
Online Writing Resources
Use the online writing resources for guidance through the writing process, including discipline guides to complete specific types of assignments found in different majors. Graduate students may also submit their papers electronically to the Online Writing Lab (OWL).
