A large number of faculty members at AUC have integrated technology in their teaching. The following examples are some of the many instructional materials that CLT staff has helped faculty develop.
Marine Turtle Life Cycle
Dr. J. Miller, Biology Dept.
In this example, a simple figure showing the life cycle of the marine turtle was transformed into an animated slide using Powerpoint. This allowed the instructor, during class presentations, to focus the students' attention on each developmental stage separately.
Emission Spectrum of the Hydrogen Atom
Dr. J. Ragai, Chemistry Dept.
The emission of light by the hydrogen atom is visually displayed using Bohr's model.
Coptic Art
Dr. G. Gabra, Professor of Coptic Studies
For his class presentations and public lectures, Dr. Gabra would use two projectors for the sake of comparing two slides simultaneously. The result was cumbersome and often problematic, especially during his conference presentations. CLT staff trained him on Powerpoint, digitized over 300 of his slides, and worked with him to create a series of interactive PowerPoint presentations for him.
Letters: Schwitters, Kurt
Ms. M. Robinson, Performing and Visual Arts Dept.
CLT staff trained Ms Robinson’s assistant on the use of PowerPoint and helped her digitize the 35mm slides which Ms Robinson uses in her art course: “Foundations of design and color”. The digitized slides were incorporated in Powerpoint for class presentations. An animation scheme to trim slide transition and appearance was created as well as internal links between slides for ease of navigation. A click on any of the pictures showed its magnified view.
Developing a news website
Dr Peggy Bieber-Roberts, Dept. of Journalism and Mass Communication
As part of a collaborative project, sixteen students were trained to use Dreamweaver with the help of one of CLT’s Student Technology Assistant. The project consisted of developing a news website representing Egyptian News and Culture. This was done in collaboration with the facilities of the Journalism and Mass Communication Department. Students shot their own video and incorporated audio and video clips into their website. The above link gives more details about the project.
