CLT Assessment of Learning and Teaching

CLT offers a variety of services to help faculty assess the effectiveness of their teaching and understand their students’ needs/perceptions.

All CLT assessment results are confidential.

Mid-Semester Surveys

“I am so happy to have such detailed responses. And the most encouraging thing is that the students seemed so willing to participate! Great feedback.” – AUC instructor, after using the mid-semester survey for the first time.

What do we offer?

Mid-semester surveys are tailored to help instructors get feedback from students in the middle of the semester, in time for them to make adjustments for the remaining part of the semester. One of our staff members will work collaboratively with the instructor to develop the survey, administer it via WebCT or in-class, and produce a report with the results.  If instructors are interested, we could also meet with them later to discuss ways to act upon students’ feedback.

When to request a mid-semester survey?

It is best to request it sometime during the 2nd month of the semester, but instructors could start earlier. A mid-semester survey is convenient when instructors have particular questions to ask, but sometimes CLT staff will suggest a Small Group Instructional Diagnosis (SGID) when more open and interactive feedback is appropriate.

We have conducted 37 surveys in Fall 2005 and 65 surveys for 33 faculty in Spring 2006. Click here to see what some faculty have said.

Small Group Instructional Diagnoses (SGID)

What do we offer?

SGID is a formative assessment tool to help faculty get feedback from their students. CLT staff members would initially meet with instructors for a brief discussion before meeting with students for 20-40 minutes in class. We produce a report with the written and oral feedback collected from students and meet the instructor to discuss our recommendations.

When to request an SGID?

It is best to conduct an SGID in the middle of the semester, but instructors should request it as early as possible for scheduling reasons, and because of CLT’s limited resources. CLT might recommend that you conduct a mid-semester survey instead.

How to request an SGID?

E-mail clt@aucegypt.edu or call 2797.6658/9 to set up a meeting to discuss your needs. We conduct 2-16 SGIDs per semester, according to need and availability of resources.
