Fostering Arab Journalism
AUC’s Kamal Adham Center for Journalism Training and Research, home to the most respected graduate journalism program in the Arab world, was founded in the mid-1980s with the generous support of Sheikh Kamal Adham of Saudi Arabia.
The Center is dedicated to fostering the next generational of Arab journalists through academic degree options, professional training courses for working journalists, and a range of research and publishing activities. The center also supports courses in the undergraduate broadcast journalism sequence.
Programs are distinguished by the breadth of technical skills that comes with a rigorous professional program and the depth of knowledge associated with a world-class university. Students not only gain hands-on experience producing TV and online news stories but also discuss and examine the role, rights and responsibilities of Arab journalism.
Facilities include television studios and state-of-the-art videotape editing labs, supported by the latest in digital field cameras.
Training options include:
MA in Television & Digital Journalism
This intensive two-year program provides the specialized skills needed to hit the ground running in television news. It is designed for:
- Working print journalists who want to transition to television
- Recent university graduates with degrees in liberal arts or mass communications
The Center works in close cooperation with channels like al-Jazeera, al-Arabiya, LBC, the BBC and others to ensure students are equipped with the full range of skills needed in the rapidly-growing field of Arab television journalism. These include:
- Television writing and producing
- Camera and videotape editing
- Studio operations
- Online journalism
- Documentary production
- Covering public affairs and other specialized topics

Professional Certificate Programs
These short-term courses are designed for working professionals who would like to acquire specific skills in:
- Television news:TV scriptwriting and producing; camera; videotape editing; studio operations

Reporting for all media: Covering public affairs and civil society; feature writing and reporting; business journalism; covering conflict; humanitarian journalism; and a range of other specialized topics
- Online journalism: Writing for the Internet; website design and operations
Courses are offered in various flexible formats to accommodate the needs of working professionals – from 2-3 day intensive sessions to five-week programs – that meet several evenings each week.

The center can also arrange custom-designed courses for Arab news organizations – television, online or print – in our studios and editing labs or on-site.
