Graduate Diploma with a Specialization in Applied Psychosocial Intervention for forced migrants and refugees.
This specialized graduate diploma is unique to Egypt, the region and globally. The diploma is a collaboration between CMRS and the new International Counseling and Community Psychology graduate program in the Psychology Unit.
Graduates will acquire core competencies for thinking critically and analytically about migration and refugee issues and planning and implementing culturally sensitive interventions in alliance with the most up-to-date guidelines and best practices for assisting forced migrants and refugees with psychosocial issues at individual, family, group, community and societal levels. They will learn to plan, manage and implement state-of-the-art interventions that make an impact on the psychosocial well-being of refugees adults and children without discrimination due to ethnicity, gender, religion or capacities at individual, family, community and societal levels. These interventions can be implemented during and after emergencies in urban, rural or camp locations. They can include but not be limited to the provision of humanitarian relief that supports human rights and dignity, provision of basic psychological first aid and psychosocial support, facilitation of psycho-education and support for families and groups, community and child focused activities in support of psychosocial well-being, advocacy, referral, protection, psycho-education and peace building.
International Counseling and Community Psychology (ICCP) Graduate Program
These programs will place AUC and its graduates at the forefront of advancing global trends towards multi-cultural and systemic psychological practice that promotes culturally relevant family, child, and community interventions in Egypt and the region. These degrees also utilize AUC's comparative advantage as an academic leader to take a progressive approach to training psychologists.

Master's Degree in Migration and Refugee Studies
The Center for Migration and Refugee Studies (CMRS) at the American University in Cairo is now offering a new master's degree in migration and refugee studies along with its graduate diploma in refugee studies. The mission of the MA program is to provide, within a liberal arts context, a high quality and unique graduate education in migration and refugee studies with a focus on the Middle Eastern and North African region. The aim is to provide graduates with critical knowledge and analytical skills of current theoretical, legal, political, economic, social, demographic and psychological issues in migration and refugee studies. The knowledge and skills acquired may be applied in careers within institutions such as governmental, non-governmental and international agencies, as well as universities, research organizations and private corporations dealing with the multitude of issues connected with migration, forced migration and refugees.
Master's Degree and Graduate Diploma in Gender and Women's Studies
The graduate program in Gender and Women’s Studies at AUC offers an interdisciplinary field of analysis that draws its questions and approaches from the humanities and social sciences through investigating how relations of gender are embedded in social, political, and cultural formations. It provides students with a unique interdisciplinary and transnational perspective with special emphasis on the Middle East and North African region.
