  1. How do I learn more about the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), Graduate Record Examinations (GRE) and Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT)? How can practice or study for these exams beforehand?
In Egypt, these tests are administered by AMIDEAST (TOEFL and GRE) and Synergy Professional Services (GMAT). They have information and practice material.
AMIDEAST: 23 Mossadak Street, Dokki. E-mail:
    Egypt@amideast.org, tel: 202.337.8265, website
Synergy: 17 Al Ahram Street, El Korba, Heliopolis, Tower B, Cairo 11441, Egypt. tel.: 202.290.2163/148

  2. How can I prepare for TOEFL, GRE and GMAT exams?
Through AMIDEAST, see address and contact information in Q 1.1, AUC’s Center for Adult and Continuing Education (CACE): tel: 202.797.6998, or private tutoring.

  3. What extra courses are needed in case of provisional admission due to having a low Grade Point Average (GPA)?
The number of prerequisite courses is determined by the department depending on the deficiency in the student background. In some cases no prerequisite courses are specified with the provision that the student gets a B average in the first two graduate courses or the first semester.

  4. If I have a BA in a specific field (e.g. English), can I study my master’s in another field (e.g. business administration)?
Yes. There is flexibility in graduate admission. After assessing an applicant’s file, the department will determine whether the applicant’s background is:
    a. suitable to allow the applicant to start the graduate program directly
    b. unsuitable and therefore the applicant would be required to take prerequisite courses first
    c. unsuitable for the proposed field of study

  5. If I have completed a graduate diploma in any other university, does that help me get admitted to the graduate program at AUC? Do I get transfer of credits for it?
In reaching the admission decision, the department looks at all aspects of the applicant’s background. Relevant graduate courses elsewhere are certainly an asset and, if directly related to the program, a student may receive up to six credit hours of transfer credit. Approval of the School Graduate Committee must be received for more than six hours of credit transfer.
  6. Can I take the economics prerequisite courses before taking the GRE?
Yes you can, but you need to have the GRE scores before registering for your second semester at AUC as a regular paying student. To be considered for a fellowship the GRE scores may be required prior to admission.

  7. What are the MBA requirements? What if I don’t have an accumulative GPA of 2.75 (good) or higher?
Applicants should have two years of relevant professional experience, satisfy the university graduate admission requirements, and obtain an acceptable score on the GMAT. The department will then assess all the applicant’s credentials to reach the admission decision. Students who do not have sufficient preparation will be enrolled first in the MBA core foundation and assigned extra courses.

  8. Do I have to submit the GMAT score with the rest of my credentials?
Yes, the GMAT scores are a must. The department will not provide its admission decision without at least the unofficial GMAT scores.

  9. What if my score on the GMAT is less than 500, do I need to sit for it again, or is there anything to make up for it?
Candidates with a GMAT score of less than 500 may still apply for the MBA program and the department will consider their application. Long professional experience and/or high GPA may counterbalance the low GMAT score.

  10. For the MBA program, what if I don’t have two years of work experience required? What kind of work experience is required?
The department assesses each applicant based on his/her academic background, the GMAT scores, and work experience. Applicants may include in their resume volunteer work, summer internship, or any part-time or temporary work experience.

  11. What if the required score in any of the three divisions of the GRE isn’t obtained?
To reach an admission decision, the department considers the applicant’s background and credentials, including GPA, experience, letters of recommendation, and GRE scores. The department may consider that the low GRE scores are counterbalanced by other features of the applicant’s background, or may require a retake of the exam.

  12. What are the application priority deadlines?
For admission in the fall semester: March 31; for admission in the spring semester: November 1.

  13. Would you accept my application if I miss the application priority deadline?
While applications after the above priority deadlines may be accepted, preference will be given to applicants who have turned in all required documentation by the dates noted under the priority deadlines.
