Director of the Film ProgramSamirah Alkassim is an independent filmmaker and a professor of film studies. Since 1997 she has taught filmmaking and film studies at Ngee Ann Poyltechnic in Singapore, UC Berkeley, Sonoma State University, San Francisco State University and the American University in Cairo. Since 2001 she has taught at AUC, in the capacity of Film Unit Head and Assistant Professor of Film in the Department of Performing and Visual Arts. She has written about experimental film/video in Cairo and Egyptian Cinema, and her current projects include a documentary about Palestinian artists in Jordan, as well as a manuscript about the impact of digital video on Arab cinemas.
