Jehane Ragai
Professor and Chair of Chemistry Department
Senior Faculty at the Science and Technology Research Center
Ragai obtained a B.Sc. in chemistry (with high honors) and an M.Sc. in solid state science both from the American University in Cairo. She conducted work towards her doctoral degree at Brunel, the University of West London in the UK from which she obtained her Ph.D. in 1976. Since then Ragai has been a faculty member in the chemistry department at AUC. Her teaching is focused on the area of physical chemistry. She has held several prominent positions, including serving as chair of the university senate (1998-2000) and she is currently the chair of the chemistry department.
Ragai’s research interests are principally in the area of surface chemistry, however she has also contributed to the field of Egyptian Antiquities and has served on the National Committee for the Study of the Giza Sphinx (1993/1994). Ragai is a member of the Board of Governors of the American Research Center in Egypt “ARCE” and she is mentioned in Who’s Who in the World, Dictionary of International Biographies and Who’s Who in Science and Engineering. Ragai was twice the recipient of the AUC Trustees merit award.
