Policies
Attendance
In order for students to improve their English proficiency to an advanced level as quickly as possible, regular attendance is critical for their success. All sections of the IEP meet 5 hours per day, 5 days per week. Regular attendance, active involvement in activities, and completion of homework assignments, are critical factors for a student's success. Because of the intensive nature of our program, it is often impossible to make up what has been missed.
Each class period that students do not attend is counted. Each day has a total of five class periods. If students are absent for one day, they will have missed five class periods. If students are not in class on time, they may also be considered absent. As university students, learners are responsible for keeping this policy in mind. Therefore, students should be careful not to miss classes unnecessarily. The 35 class periods of absence allowed during the semester should be used only in case of illness, urgent business or other emergencies.
Appropriate Behavior
Students are expected to conduct themselves in a manner appropriate to life at an academic institution in Egypt with due respect for Egyptian customs and traditions. In other words, their behavior should reflect the socially accepted norms of Egyptian society enhancing, not undermining, the image of AUC students in the society, at large. In addition, respect for all members of the university community is an important principle at AUC. Actions and speech that are harmful or disturbing to others are not acceptable and may result in disciplinary action.
Responsibility
All IEP students are expected to take responsibility for their learning by:
- Attending classes regularly
- Participating actively and thoughtfully in class activities
- Completing all homework assignments
- Cooperating in a respectful manner with their teachers and fellow students
- Doing individual activities and homework individually
- Doing group activities cooperatively with their classmates
- Developing good study habits and learning strategies
- Making the best use of their time in IEP not only to improve their English proficiency and skills, but also to expand their intellectual horizons and adapt to university life
