Who has to take writing at AUC?
All students at AUC must take 9 credit hours of writing instruction. There are ways that students can be exempted. This is explained in the section on Exemptions.

Check Courses for detailed syllabi.
What do I need to do to fulfill the writing requirements at AUC?
There are two possible ways in which a student can fulfill the 9 credit hours of writing instruction:
- if you are placed in RHET 101, then you will complete your requirements by taking RHET 102 and RHET 201 (see the section on Placement for more information)
- if you are placed in RHET 102, then you will complete your requirements by taking RHET 201 and a 300 level writing course in your major.
Can I skip a course?
Yes. See the section on Exemptions. However, you will not be able to skip the 300/400 level course.
If I took the RHET 101, 102, 201 sequence, can I still take the 300/400 level writing course in the major?
Of course you can. Since the 300/400 level writing courses are geared to preparing students for writing in their specific careers, we are hoping that all students will eventually opt to take these courses. In the future, individual departments may require students to take these courses as part of their major requirements.
