CAD Labs
Location: FLAC 402, 403
Supervisor: Dr. Ashraf Nassef

The CAD labs support several design courses including Machine Elements Design (MENG 356 and MENG 457), Computer Aided Design and Prototyping (MENG 451), and Finite Elements (MENG 453).
The labs are used in the above courses to train students in solid modeling and machine elements design on computer aided design software, finite element analysis using commercial packages, rapid prototyping and geometric modeling form points taken by surface sampling machines.
The labs comprise a Local Area Network-LAN consisting of 40-graphics workstations, three B/W laser printers, two DeskJet color printers, a flatbed A4 scanner, and one dedicated server working as file-server for users and license-server for applications.
In addition the lab has the following equipment for supporting:
- Rapid Prototyping Machine (ABS based)
- 3-D laser Scanner
- Faro Arm for tactile sensing of surfaces
- Laser Cutting and Engraving machine
The CAD and analysis packages supported in the lab include:
- CATIA
- ProEngineer
- SolidWorks with COSMOS
- SolidEdge
- ANSYS
- ABAQUS
- MARC/PATRAN
- ALGOR
- CPLEX
- MATLAB
- SPATIA/HOOPS
