The AUC Department of Economics prides itself in being the first in Egypt from which economics students graduated in the early 1950’s. The department has continued to attract highly qualified faculty and highly motivated students. There are 17 full time faculty members; 14 adjunct faculty. Students majoring in economics are 172 with 1390 students from the whole university taking economics courses.

By virtue of its location in Egypt, the economics department of AUC is in the enviable position of having access to the rich archival material in this country, as well as the presence of several policy think tanks in Cairo, in addition to the many regional offices of international institutions. Many members of the department have received public recognition for their work, both inside and outside the department.
