Emerging Creative Voices Series

“Emerging Creative Voices” is an initiative of the ECLT Department at AUC, designed to provide new artistic talents in Cairo with a congenial platform and a friendly audience.


Madalyn Lamont Literary Award

The Madalyn Lamont Literary Award was started in 1986 in memory of an instructor in the Writing Program (ECLT), a poet and women's rights activist. It is an award for student creative writing (narrative, poetry, and drama). Entries are accepted in English and Arabic on alternating years. A committee of rotating judges selects the best entries and a distinguished woman speaker is invited to give the keynote address in the Award ceremony in April.

Salon Afrique

Salon Afrique was started in fall 2005 as a series of year-long cultural activities highlighting the African continent. It is organized by the Department of English and Comparative Literature and the Office of Graduate Studies and Research with the help of African Fellows. It presents films, lectures, plays, musical events, poetry reading, and artistic shows.
