Students Affairs
The Student Affairs Committee reviews, approves, and monitors policies concerning the admission and academic performance of students. It is responsible for standards for admissions, scholarships, student academic performance, graduation requirements and honors.
Membership, Organization, and Procedures and Functions of the Student Affairs Committee:
A. Membership:
1- The Student Affairs Committee will comprise at least seven members of the University Senate.
2- Members of the Committee will normally serve for two-year terms.
3- Additional members may be appointed to the Committee from among non-senatorial faculty, staff or students for periods of up to one year.
4- A member who for any legitimate reason, such as sabbatical leave or of absence, is unable to participate in committee meetings for a protracted period of time may nominate a substitute member for approval by the Committee.
B. Organization:
1- The Committee will elect annually a chair from among its members.
2- The Committee will elect annually a secretary from among its members.
3- The Committee may appoint such ad hoc sub-committees as it may deem necessary for the proper conduct of its affairs. Other members of the faculty, staff and student body, who may or may not be members of the University Senate, may be invited to serve on such sub-committees.
C. Procedures and Functions:
1- The Committee will meet within the first month of each year and at least monthly thereafter during the course of each semester.
2- The majority of the membership will constitute a quorum for meetings. Motions will be passed or defeated by the majority of those present. Other matters of meeting procedures will be settled in accordance with Robert's Rules of Order.
3- The Committee will receive the recommendation of its standing and ad hoc committees for consideration and recommendation on matters concerning student affairs policies.
4- The Committee will consider and make recommendations on any matters related to student affairs policies referred to it by the University Senate as a whole, the Executive Committee or any other committee or sub-committee of the Senate.
5- The Committee will consider and make recommendations on any matters related to student affairs policies referred to it by individual senators and others in the University community, if deemed appropriate by the Committee members.
6- The Committee will report to the University Senate as a whole, in a timely manner, its recommendations for Senate approval on matters concerning student affairs policies.
7- Matters concerning student affairs policy include the following:
(a) Admissions.
(b) Registration.
(c) Academic performance.
(d) Extra-curricula activities and student welfare/conduct.
When policies related to extra-curricula activities and student welfare/conduct are under consideration, there will be expanded representation from the policy-implementation unit(s) of the University and students.
