Tahrir Dialogues

As Egypt now focuses its attention on building a new country and a new government, the School of Global Affairs and Public Policy (GAPP) is encouraging open dialogue and discussion about how best to achieve this transition. The school has launched its Building a Better Egypt initiative, which will focus on three parallel tracks to educate, inspire and invigorate discussions about how to create the optimal Egyptian government.

The first of these tracks, the Tahrir Dialogues, consists of regular debates on topics that average citizens face during this transition period, such as public governance, economic and social justice, and the media. Links to the debates that have already occurred can be found on AUC’s YouTube channel. Several Tahrir Dialogues that have taken place include: managing the transition, restarting competitive politics, ensuring media freedom, and constitutional reform.

The second track includes a series of invitational workshops and training sessions to assist activists and professionals with their work in transforming Egyptian society and governance. There will be 10 of these workshops taking place over the course of the upcoming year.

Finally, the school plans to organize a special practicum course during the summer to allow graduate students to become more engaged by managing the program, supporting events and preparing written and online documents to expand the dissemination of information produced through the Tahrir Dialogues and invitational workshop series.
