Zamalek

The distance between the Zamalek residence and the new campus is about a 1.5 hour drive to New Cairo. Shuttle buses run between the Zamalek residence and the main campus daily, every hour from 6am to 11pm. There is no additional transportation fee for students residing in AUC residence facilities. The residence is an 11-story building that houses both students and faculty. Security guards ensure the safety of the residence 24 hours a day. Women and men live in separate sections of the building to guarantee privacy, while a common reception area on the ground floor provide comfortable areas for receiving guests, group studying, watching international programming or videos, dining and socializing. These common areas are also the stage for a diverse number of social, educational and cultural activities.

Facilities

The 500-square meter ground floor is home to a computer room, small exercise gym, AUC bookstore, lounge, medical clinic and cafeteria. There is also a central courtyard which provides a relaxing outdoor oasis in which students can escape the hustle and bustle of metropolitan Cairo. Graced by a well-tended garden and decorative fountain, the courtyard is a popular meeting spot for students, as well as a perfect setting for outdoor gatherings.

Rooms

The five floors of the building feature the spacious student accommodations. Each room, with its attractive arabesque décor, is furnished with twin beds, desks, chairs, book shelves, closets, a telephone set and high speed internet connection. Every room has a temperature control unit which allows students to adjust the air conditioning or heating to provide maximum comfort. All students are provided with bedding and linen, which is changed twice weekly free of charge. Personal laundry service is available at a moderate price.
