Medical Services Plan

All international students and AUC student housing residents are required to join AUC's Medical Services Plan.
The fee is $85 for the academic year ($30 in summer) and is charged the first semester of enrollment. Coverage includes medical examinations, hospitalization, surgery, x-rays, dentistry, laboratory tests, and other medical services up to LE 25,000 (about $4060) per year..
Exemptions are made for students sponsored by companies, embassies or other agencies, and for those with immediate family residing in Cairo. Medical services can be extended to Egyptian students if desired.

Health Insurance for International Students

AUC requires all international students and dual-national Egyptians who are not permanent residents in Egypt to join AUC’s medical services plan (explained above) and have an accident/sickness Insurance plan.
AUC has a group insurance policy issued by ACE American Insurance Company.

What Does the Plan Cover?

Highlights include:

  • Maximum $500,000 covered medical expenses
  • Deductible of $50 per condition
  • Unlimited emergency medical evacuation
  • Unlimited repatriation of remains in the event of death
  • Emergency reunion benefits for a family member in case of sickness or death
  • Home country benefit option: students can elect this option and pay an additional $13 per month

Home country rider (extended benefit) option will provide the ability to continue coverage, on a limited basis, for a period of 60 days, after return to Home Country.

Exemptions/Waivers


Exemption from mandatory participation in the international insurance plan is granted to students who show proof of health insurance or with comparable benefits including:
  • Medical expense benefits of at least $250,000
  • Emergency medical evacuation of at least $100,000
  • Repatriation of remains of at least $50,000

Deadline to submit the Medical Insurance Exemption Form to the Student Financial Affairs office (fax number is on the form) is:

  • Fall Semester – July 1
  • Spring semester / Winter session – December 1
  • Summer session – April 15Note: If your admission to the university is granted after the deadline, the request for exemption must be submitted within one week of receipt of the admission offer.

How do I Submit Claims?

After the $50 deductible per condition is met, coverage is 100% up to the $500,000 maximum.

Dependent Coverage Option

This option is available for students who have a spouse and/or children accompanying them. You fill the form and submit it to the International Student Affairs Office, Hill House, second floor, Main Campus.
